2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

2015 saw Stephan Bodzin release his second full length, “Powers of Ten”, as well as a new single on DJ Tennis’ and Tale of Us’ taste making label Life and Death. The album is another magical piece of work that focuses on melody and rhythm, on fat bass and vivid sound design and is a truly captivating journey through the mind, music, body and soul of one of dance music’s truly modern greats. After its release, a great team of modern music makers was enlisted to remix tracks from it: Maceo Plex & Shall Ochin, Fur Coat, Extrawelt, long time musical sparring partner Marc Romboy, Pan-Pot, Max Cooper, Agents of Time, Dominik Eulberg and many more all contributed to what is an essential collection. With a remix of ‘Sleepless’, a Pan-Pot track from their latest album, Stephan Bodzin closed the latest chapter of 2015 in what has been an exhilarating musical journey in his capable and creative hands.

Layton Giordani makes his Truesoul debut with a pumping, three track release. The high energy tracks showcase Layton’s youthful and fresh approach to production. ‘Unspoken’, holding a pounding kick drum and thumping techno sound, is the heavier of the three tracks whilst ‘Misunderstood’ and ‘Trusting You’ cut a lighter groove. The samples are uplifting, sounds imaginative and the percussion is tight - this EP is not to be missed.

Silky house from a master of the groove.

Delicate and slick, Mihai Popescu delivers an addictive slice of minimal house. Known for his blissful vocal led dynamic, the simplistic nature of Popescu’s sound allows rhythm to breathe. Do Watcha Feeel is led by an inviting bassline, weaving in unison with a playful vocal sample littered in and out of the mix.

Leaving the core elements to carry the rhythm, a patient, fluid groove acts as an anchor central to the track, a brave technique typical of the minimal sound. 


It’s loopy essence makes for a unique listening experience. Settling on a simplistic drum pattern seeks a hypnotic effect, getting lost in the intricate, subtle details oozed across the mix, tripping over a clever, mesmeric arrangement. Crisp hats rise and fall throughout, revealing refined percussions buried in the depths whilst glossy chords glisten overhead.

Mihai Popescu is no stranger to the minimal house scene, previously working with Raresh’s Metereze, iO’s Mulen Records as well as managing his own Soulsity imprint, Popescu’s music has been circling for years.

Do Watcha Feeel is the opening track of the forthcoming ‘All The Good Things’ EP which marks his 14th solo release under the MP moniker and the fifth instalment of Enrico Mantini’s PURISM project.

After a string of successful releases kick started in 2015 with a solo release from Kirik, vinyl only imprint Curtea Veche celebrate their 8th release with a selection of sounds from one of Bucharest's many talented producers - Guy From Downstairs.

Guy From Downstairs musical career started many moons ago, and to date the Romanian composer has released on a number of renouned labels, including Dilated Records, Tzinah and Phil Weeks imprint Robsoul, as well as his GFD imprint which launched in 2016.

Back in March this year, I was introduced to Victor (Guy From Downstairs) when visiting the city of Bucharest. Our mutual friend Direkt introduced us as we went over to Victor's place to hang out and play with some hardware before heading over to Guesthouse to see Vincentulian and Molly take to the turntables. His cosy home studio contained a lot of Hip Hop memorabilia and records, as well as various synthesisers which surrounded the big desk in the centre of the room. Hip Hop is something that has played a big part in Victor's story, and if you scan his Soundcloud profile you will be able to find some recorded Hip Hop sets that he has played in recent years.

As far as this release goes, both parties have lived up to their high standards. GFD has delivered another sublime release, which also includes a remix from Herck, a close friend of the label who's 2-Part release 'Sonetul Noptilor Fecunde' dropped on Curtea Veche last year, and of course, the brains behind the label have brought it all together and provided us with another outstanding release, sure to be a timeless classic.

We have selected the title track entitled 'Rodul' to be premiered here at Trommel. Opening with some glitchy sounds accompanied by some hats, the main body of the track starts to form over the first 2 minutes of the production. A combination of percussive sounds that bounce around the track give more movement. A sequence of notes from a synthesizer come into play and are a perfect match for the vocal that peers it's head shortly after. The spoken word vocal is from Guy From Downstairs' archive, and is a Japenese story telling that fits perfectly with the other elements of the production. Further down the line more sounds are introuced and add some different vibes to the track, allowing it to evolve even more so.

We are super excited to hear this do the rounds at parties across the world. The release has already recieved support from Petre Inspirescu, Priku, Livio & Roby and Floog, as well as many other artists at SW23 earlier this year.
