Berlin based DJ and producer Soela has been on our radar for a while now. She has been known for her mesmerizing, multi-genre mixes and has released on well respected labels such as Dial, Kompakt and Shall Not Fade.  

“I recorded this mix after a gig in Tresor. I was inspired by it but wanted something relaxing, some non-dance, and warm music with a nostalgic spark. I included quite some different genres as I usually do: this mix is a journey between trippy electronica, ambient, minimal and jazzy house, and neoclassic. I included some pieces by Anton Zap, Lusine, Sven Weisemann, Hania Rani, and Kelela.”

"This track is the oldest one on the EP, it's a track that I originally called Deville and started working on almost a year ago. I love this song, and it's gone through SO many iterations. I had a cycle of working on it every few months nonstop to the point of complete frustration, then putting it down again. When I started this EP, this was the first track I finished because I knew it had to be a part of the project. This one I actually wrote in a couple of hours and just put it away for a rainy day and when I was looking for skeletons to work on for the EP I found this and knew that it fit exactly what I wanted to put out. As I often play these records alongside newer releases, I realized most of those classics were more than 25 years old, I thought of compiling them together to show where dub tech comes from and how timeless most of these tracks are...Take a record like Round Four, discovered for a lot of people like me on Daniel Bell's mix (2000) The button down mind of Daniel Bell. More than 25 years onwards, you can look at a record like this, alongside Baby Ford and early Ricardo Villalobos as the blueprint for modern minimal and dubby electronic music, but that would imply that those genres later improved upon the overall formula. In reality, few got even close to as good as this. The origins of a genre is often more important than newer releases. Few notes: Sanasol is Yagya (Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson, Thorhallur Skulason aka Thor), Aliens don't boogie was famously used on Richie Hawtin's Deck, efx & 909 in 1999, Parallel 9 is Steve Rachmad famous Dutch electronic musician aka Sterac, Infiniti is Juan Atkins both he and Moritz von Oswald aka Maurizio remixed each other and collaborated many times in the last 30 years. Vainqueur is René Löwe famous from the Chain Reaction label. The B.C. track isn't Basic channel but a moniker which consists of Robert Leiner (Visions of the past) and Cisco Ferreira (The Advent). G-Man, whose productions were way ahead of its time on Force inc is Gez Varley from L.F.O. one half of it (other was Mark Bell), Quadrant is another moniker used by Basic channel, the EP was released in 1993 on R&S records the legendary Belgium label, and later repressed on Carl Craig's Planet E.

“I started DJing nearly 20 years ago, at least partially inspired by the way Erol used to play at Trash and later Bugged Out and beyond. I was lucky enough to book him over the years at our Adventures In The Beetroot Field parties as well as Field Day and even the Lock Tavern, which I used to programme back then. As I drifted more towards exploring techno under my Volte-Face moniker, our paths diverged somewhat, and a few years went by when I didn't bump into him or see him play all that often. So this mix feels like a homecoming of sorts, and an expression of a rekindled musical freedom and a cherished friendship. @dannydaze has proven incredibly hard to pin down since he first emerged. After starting down a path that very quickly took him to the best clubs in the world but off the back of a sound that wasn't really his, he has managed to rewrite perceptions. After deciding to do things his own way, at his own pace, he is now known for what he really loves: techno, electro and IDM. Just recently he continued his collaborative work with Brazilian RHR on four dark, gritty and evocative cuts on OmniDisc, and has more music on the way soon on Schematic Records. 

This mix hints at what to expect from that EP, says Danny. "Due to the current conditions, I decided to go with chill zone session for this one mixed live with a bunch of the styles that influenced me over the last 20 years. Went a bit more trip-hop/IDM/electro with it which points to the direction the upcoming EP and album later in the year. Hope everyone has a nice week." So strap in for two freewheeling hours of interplanetary sonics, churning rhythms and otherworldly cinematics that will start your week right.
