Here at SoundPark, we've always felt strongly about showcasing brands along with the people behind these concepts that contribute to their regional nightlife culture in a real way. It’s a collective process that involves the coordination of plenty of people to put it together. Artists need to make incredible music. Labels need to release this music. Both management and booking agencies work in tandem ensuring their artists are performing at the best shows possible. The event organizer needs to have the vision to pair amazing music with an equally amazing setting. The venue needs to offer incredible sound, a place with a captivating atmosphere, where people feel welcome. The ones who do this right create wonderful experiences that will leave the audience simply buzzing. Music can be an incredibly rich experience that can affect you in powerful ways. When we first discovered Patrick Muller aka Patlac, it was an unbelievable combination of all these elements. This is why we hold this tastemaker in such a high regard. His sound is an amazing blend of punchy hypnotic hooks that share both melodic and groovy overtones. His performances are always exciting journeys that carry energy but never lose that delicate balance of harmony from track to track. SoundPark was excited to sit down with the Hamburg native to discuss his particular style of music when both performing and when writing in the studio as well as some perspective on dealing with stressors that come along with growing notoriety on a global level. Heading from his own True Rotary Recordings (co-run with Ena Cosovic), Be As One and recently showing appearance twice on BROR Records sub-label Lilies - Joel Alter presents a diverse three track EP on BROR Records with “BROR07” under his techno alias Jor-El.

The A-side holds the highly effective “In Ur Face” with broken percussions. A track with a daring arrangement that half way through imposes dark energy through the moody bass line and a relentless four to the floor kick work.

On the B-side Jor-El brings the emotive “In Ur Mind”, a perfectly crafted atmospheric techno cut followed by the energetic off-kilter outro “Spectrum”- techno stripped to its bare essentials.

"Nōpi is a newborn producer project from Ukrania. Established in early 2019, Nōpi was able to score releases on significant labels and his continuous flow of giveaways has quickly gained him some recognition. We are happy to help the young talent on his rise to the top and showcase 2 groovy, melodic house tracks, supported by our dreamy family-members Yoni Yarchi and Daniel van der Zwaag.

Daynight is able to deliver a bouncy and energetic baseline groove, further enforced with tight shakers and warm percussions. Gentle piano chords and soothing vocals are layered upon the bases and build a coherent atmosphere, that is characterized by subtle textures and smartly placed pad-sweeps.

With peculiar tension, main title track "The Forest" opens up its intro. A collaborating space of fieldrecordings set the mood of this song, while patient piano melodies and a warm, low-end bassline push the production forward. Subtle chants and an array of pads, create a haunting atmosphere - An adventure of mystical soundscapes, that is reshaped by our NWS-dreamers Yoni Yarchi and Daniel van der Zwaag.

Yoni's remix immediately takes a brighter and life-affirming turn, by implementing an uprising & warm bassline, energetic percussions and a flourishing synth, that is playful and charming. Elevating pads and charismatic textures, give Yoni's take and innocent feel in the most positive way.

A beafy low-end and hypnotic rhythmics are the foundation of Daniel van der Zwaag's deeper approach. The symbiosis of the lonely piano with wide and open soundscapes, create the atmosphere of a lonely walk in the woods. The complementing layers of a pushing groove and an intimate top create an interesting feel, that keeps up the mystery of the original, fortifies it and reflects the story of a forsaken place.

In this third chapter of the BROT series, they wrap up the trilogy from the Reykjavík based producer Felix Leifur, who has genuinely showcased his incredible set of production skills throughout the year.

These last five BROT tracks move the sound to another spectrum where Felix plays around with his traditional sound. But this time the tempo is high, and the strong influences from old school breakbeat and jungle shine through. Felix's BROT 03 ties up the first BROT series with flair and this one will surely not be the last one.

Stay tuned for more BROT action in 2020.

After a long hiatus our unsigned series is back. Producers who have appeared on the series so far have been approached by labels and subsequently had material released by them after we helped shed some light on the new talents. We hope we’re able to do the same with the next one in the bunch, coming from Melbourne's @darcykhalid. 

Get to know a little about him below:

Hey, I’m Darcy Khalid.

I’ve been producing music for about five years and DJing and playing piano for a little longer. Since I moved to Melbourne in 2016, I’ve been producing music with at least the vague intention to release it publicly. I wanted to wait until I felt I had a sound that was my own, and I guess that time has come.

My Unsigned track is from my debut EP. The record features three quite different tracks, including elements of ambience, techno, drum & bass – even hints of jazz on the A1. Hakone Schoolyard is the A2, and if someone called it a broken beat ambient techno jam, I wouldn’t call them crazy.

It evolved three times over about 18 months. I made a version, got bored of it, left it alone, then repeated that process several months later. What you hear now is take three. I can be a bit ambitious with my compositions, so they’re often long and multi-sectioned. My favourite songs will change a lot, weaving between atmospheres, energy levels and tempos, often seamlessly, but occasionally with bold abruption. I tried to do both here. I hope it worked.
