Nach all den Techno-Nummern, die er für sein Label @aeon-audio produzierte, hatte @alexniggemann mal wieder Lust, etwas mehr mit Melodien zu arbeiten und ein wenig housiger zu produzieren. „Ich bin ein Fan davon, solche Nummern mit percussion-reichen Beats zu unterlegen“, erklärt der gebürtige Düsseldorfer. Erstgenanntes Werk ist durch seine dunklen Sub-Percussions, den Bass und die steigenden Pads geprägt. Following last summers acclaim Ruede Hagelstein's long player 'Apophenia', we once again revisit the album, this time with a few stunning remixes from The Drifter, Can Love Be Synth, and Ruede himself of the hugely popular 'Footprints' feat. C.A.R..

Up first is The Drifter and he turns out what may be his best remix to date with a swelling, emotional ride that will most definitely be an anthem for the coming summer. Taking a different approach, yet just as engaging, Ruede reworks his original into a dark, looping psychedelic odyssey perfect for late nights or early mornings. Can Love Be Synth rounds out the remixes with a gorgeous Pop-esque twist on the original choosing to focus on live instrumentation and retro synthesis resulting in a cross-over favorite. And finally, for all the times you want the vibe without the vocal, a dub version of the original gem.

Exclusive Braunbeck 'Schlaflos (Daniel Bortz Remix)'

Do you like it deep? Berlin based label Sol Eterno and its co-founder Fabian Braunbeck follow a new musical approach with their latest three tracker 'Schlaflos'. The track title, the German word for sleepless, as well as the Daniel Bortz Remix of 'Schaflos' and 'Café Jasmin' extend the previous label-sound as they all focus on more defined and classical soundscapes that can be ascribed to the Deep House genre. Regardless 'Schaflos' certainly is not a Deep House EP in a classical sense but rather a melodical firework depicting a darker maybe even a more thoughful Fabian Braunbeck. With Daniel Bortz taking on remix duties for the EP's title track, 'Schlaflos' gets a completely make-over as the Augsburger producer emphasizes the original's deep shades and adds a dubby twist to it while mystically croaking sounds step from the back- to the foreground and evoke a feeling of restlessness throughout the track. 'Schlaflos' represents both Sol Eterno's and Braunbeck's most expressive as well as darkly and beautifully twisted vision of electronic music so far.

Braunbeck's EP 'Schlaflos' will be released January 18th, 2019 on Sol Eterno.

Premiere: Third Son - The Need For Repetition [Polymath]

DJ Qness debuts on ELEMENTS with a stunning two track EP bringing his authentic sound from the heart of Johannesburg. The award-winning music producer has made a notable mark on the dance music culture in South Africa, but his unique sound has been heard the world over with releases and remixes on the likes of MoBlack, XL, Becuase Music and many more.

The lead track Bayethe features the haunting vocals of Tabia. The lyrics give praise to a higher spiritual being, a force beyond us that is binds us by music, expressed through the movement and togetherness of dance. Qness’ use of percussion is elegant and purposeful, it’s tribal rhythm locks you in on a journey supported by the warm melodic chords and an arpeggiated synth that are simply mesmerising. It invokes a feeling of inclusion as Tabia’s vocals grow stronger and stronger throughout. 

“As the world has been in lockdown for months, for the first time in our lives we have felt like we have lost all the small privileges and freedoms we have taken for granted. All of a sudden we realise how meaningful a simple hug is, or being able to chill with friends and family is. The realisation of these little things birthed this EP, which has brought different artists from different cultural backgrounds together. For me it reminded me how important our togetherness really is. Sometimes it is literally all that we’ve got.”

Qness completes the EP with a collaboration with the Ilitha Lelanga Marimba Ensemble - a vibrant marimba band from the Gugulethu township in the Western Cape. Mkatakata is a show of real class and the musicianship on display here is supremely impressive. Driving percussion, marimba melodies and uplifting chants from the whole ensemble mould Mkatakata into a magical experience, and Qness creates the perfect groove to make this dancefloor ready. 

“We wrote these lyrics thinking about a partner who is mad at their lover who has gone out dancing in the village with their friends, and their other half at home alone throughout the night. They are upset, and the song is about coming home to make up for it! We have missed these experiences over the last few months”

It is an impressive debut on the label from DJ Qness, who is a true artist pioneering of the South African dance scene authentically. The Bayethe EP is out on Friday 21st August on Jonas Rathsman’s ELEMENTS Series, and DJ Qness will be delivering a live stream on ELEMENTS Facebook and YouTube on the same day - not to be missed.
