Artist: The Open Circle [Greyscale / Crossfade Sounds/ Axaminer / OHM Series / ODrex]

Our 17th Frontier journey comes from Belgian producer Geert Thirry better known as - The Open Circle. We have been big fans of The Open Circle since we discovered his music a few years ago. He is an incredible producer and very versatile artist, who’s music can span from deep ambient soundscapes, to low slung chuggy dub techno all the way up to full dance floor fist pumping Techno. His production is mostly done using a Modular synthesizer and some other hardware. Then Layered textures and evolving rhythms are built to define the signature style with analog warmth and hypnotic depth.  

Geert has been producing music for many years, His first EP was actually released back in 2003 on the UK label ” Lost Language “as a double vinyl. Released under the alias Karada the release was more in the melodic Techno sphere. Since then his style and sound has developed into the deep Dub Techno he is known for today. His productions have been gathering more and more acclaim with his recent release on the legendary Greyscale placing him firmly towards to the top echelons of the Dub Techno world. 

We are honoured to be able to welcome Geert to the Dub Explorations and Frontier family and look forward to hearing his future productions.

Heres my first ambient mix, since the "Best Served Chilled" tapes of 94 & 95 and a rather lengthy four hours in total thanks to developments in technology & a substantial collection of ambient music. I decided to split them into two parts and offer the files at 320kbps after getting some feedback on various forums on what is the perfect ambient mix.. I may upload the whole mix in one piece later..I feel this mix is more suited to personal listening rather than trying to chill people out at a social gathering, as it shifts from very dark minimal drones and deep environmental sounds to gentle classical pieces to pure space music & occasionally returning to earth with more emotional compositions . Fortunately due to the very long running time of the mix I was able to included full length versions of most of the tracks while using a repeated theme at various intervals using multi-tracking additional looping & effects.

As August begins, summer's golden days are still here, full of promise and hope. As we move into the peaceful months ahead, we're excited to welcome the talented Spanish artist Pablo Bolivar to our 320th episode in the series.

“A modern master of house and techno, Seven Villas founder Pablo Bolivar is know equally well as an album artist and prolific remixer, but perhaps foremost as a world class DJ. With artistic breadth and worldwide appeal, it is clear that Pablo was born to create music, always with an attitude, and always with quality as a standard.”
Boasting more than a decade of experience releasing music, Pablo Bolívar is a name familiar to most in the underground circuit of Dance music. Born in Santander, Spain, in 1981, he took his first steps into the music business by studying Sound Engineering at Barcelona’s Crash institute, then working as an engineer for a number of years following his graduation in 2000.
After a while, Pablo began working at one of Spain’s most recognised Electronic imprints, Decoder Muzique. Following this, in 2006 he released his debut LP via Barcelona label Regular, entitled ‘Anjanas’. The 11-track album showcased his melodic, hypnotic and intriguing style of Techno that has over the years become synonymous with his name, panning between ambient sections and tougher, more club-driven moments with a real maturity and understanding of music that only comes from studying the art at its core.
In 2009, Pablo released his critically acclaimed and personal favourite LP, ‘Recall’, also via Regular. The album saw him once again nod to past influences such as Heiko Laux and his Kanzleramt label as well as other German imprints such as Chain Reaction, but also was deeply inspired by the passing of his father.
Since then, the Spaniard has gone from strength to strength, with further releases on Curle Recordings, as well as on Desolat, Culprit, Einmusika, Moodmusic, Endless as well as via his own labels, Seven Villas and Avantroots, also remixing the likes of Gui Boratto, Mario Basanov, When Saints Go Machine, Gorge, Parov Stelar or Juana Molina to name a few.
Outside of music production, the gifted Spaniard has built up a reputation for his meticulously crafted DJ performances, combining his own mesmerising Techno cuts with records unearthed from his regular excursions crate digging as well as from other artists such as Floating Points, Soulphiction, I:Cube and Vakula – modern names that he is a big personal fan of.

Time & Space 110 – JR Hartley

It all began right there on the playa, six years ago under the rays of the morning sun, immersed in the magic of the beautiful Robot Heart sound stage.  A community so powerful and strong, it has become the biggest inspiration for my own musical journey. The people I met, the music I heard and the feelings I had that first night have left a lasting impression and inspired me to learn a new skill and start playing and producing music.

In the modern world, traveling around the world, making countless acquaintances we get lost in this endless whirlpool of activity. We start seeking a sense of belonging, experiences that unite us and inspire to create. This is what Robot Heart does for many of us, whether you come here to dance, play or connect. 

My own experience led me to start experimenting with sound and styles, curating artists that would join us on the playa for a week and become family for life.  We grew into a amazing community, which we call White Ocean, united by our love and passion for creativity and exploration. There is nothing more inspiring for me at the moment than seeing how music can improve our lives and open our minds to new adventures and experiences. It did it for me......

It has been the greatest honor to come back to where it all started and play my set for Robot Heart's 10 year anniversary on the playa. I wish your journey to continue for my years to come:)

To create his seventh LP, Yes! Come Parade With Us, Leafcutter John drew inspiration from his personal history. Given that the LP was conceived in the great outdoors, it’s no surprise that Yes! Come Parade With Us is a record full of fresh and optimistic tracks. The sounds that Leafcutter John coaxes from his electronics here all have a charming positivity to them. Arpeggios, morning-phase pads, fairground vamps and whirring lead lines are just some of the tones that make an appearance.
