Following a debut EP on Golf Channel in 2015, Autarkic aka Nadav Spiegel has risen in status alongside his close friends and collaborators Red Axes and Moscoman. His recent debut LP for Disco Halal has garnered critical acclaim. Spiegel clearly has a rare talent as a songwriter, crafting the kind of intelligent, left-field pop music that one usually has to look back to the avant-garde of the 1980s to find.  If things were more downtempo, experimental and psych rock on his first EPs, these tracks for Turbo point squarely at the dance-floor, and have been staples in the sets of not only Moscoman and Red Axes, but in the other rising stars of the underground Israeli scene around labels like Malka Tuti and Fortuna records, as well as the global groove empire developing around Turbo A&R Thomas Von Party’s Multi Culti. Out 29th July !

Autarkic makes-up part of an unspoken alliance from Tel-Aviv, which is currently altering the state of contemporary house and techno music. Heavy Dreamer, the artist’s first, four-track outing on Life and Death, showcases much of what this bold movement is about, all while pushing it forward into progress.  

Ever-present tones of kraut and punk rock flow throughout the EP, beginning with Some Things To Keep, a pumping, warehouse floor-filler. Autarkic steps up to the mic, often re-amping and distorting his vocal delivery, placing it alongside finely-programmed keyboard riffs, tough drums and further psychedelia. Realistic Guru, the trippiest of the lot, is tailor-made for an early-morning DJ Tennis after-party excursion. Slowing down the pace on Powerhouse, Autarkic hints at moments of Bauhaus’ and Tones on Tail’s doom-and-dance pop, while offering-up a digital-only, stripped-down, bonus version. The title track stands as a testament to this new wave of artists, coming from the shores of Israel’s Mediterranean coastline. Bass, drums and guitar are recorded through bespoke boxes and presented through the lens of modernist club-culture.

"Benedikt Frey and Naia d’Alò's Init project received great initial praise through two well conceived pieces for John Talabot's Hivern disco back in 2015. Now the pair are back on Les Disques De La Mort with a four track EP rich with their moody techno delights.

"Stereometric" sees a swollen electric base gently plume as ghostly vox and slowly eroding artefacts are scattered through the mix; landing somewhere between Bay Area minimal wave and the taut techno meanderings of Marcel Dettman. 

"Nuts" is an anthemic slice of darkwave electro; tense, a little bit menacing and cinematic as hell - conjuring images of late night mutant car chases through guttural cityscapes. 

"Wheels" sees us dive down smacked-out electro-post-punk rabbit hole; landing in a drug stained bedsit around Hulme Crescents circa '89 with next doors party still in full swing two days since it began. 

"Mindwork" invites said neighboring crusties to an all-night post-Goa-trance rave up on some moonlit beach and populated by shady drug dealers and Mad Max type characters all locked into its full-throttle stomp. "
