‘England to Ecuador’ brought together two groups of young people who are making music on opposite sides of the world. The 2013 project was a musical collaboration between urban artists from Knowle West Media Centre in Bristol, UK and live musicians from the Institute of Visual Arts in Quito, Ecuador.
It was an opportunity for young people to be brought together by music, even when separated by language and geography. ‘England to Ecuador’ not only illustrates how technology can be used to bridge barriers to collaboration – it celebrates a mixing of different musical styles and cultures.

On 15/07/14 Vice visited the amazing Universal Magnetic Show on Ujima Radio. A weekly show hosted by DJ Fabia, Awkward, Ben One and Adam The Media Assassin. The show are strong supporters of their local community, so much so that Fabia will be guest DJ'ing for the XLR festival 2014!

XLR aims to create and showcase high quality, uplifting music – and give young people experiences they won’t forget and which can help their personal and professional development. In order to do this, we’ve invite industry leaders to run professional sessions in lyric writing, beat-making and recording, as well as workshops in how to make music videos and run photo-shoots, and entrepreneurial talks. There will be performances every evening showcasing new music talent.

XLR centers around Hip Hop culture, with workshops focusing on lyric writing, MC’ing, beatmaking, graffiti, DJ’ing and more. Over the last four years some of Bristol’s most respected artists including Krissy Kriss, K*Ners, Buggsy, Dissmiss (Dutty Girls), Twizzy, DJ Quest, B’Tol and many more.
