There are multiple angles to view this verse.
Ecco is possibly referring to his fans and the community surrounding DG who hold onto an image they have built of him: how he should act, how he should sound, and how he should go about his musical career. He’s saying that whatever image that fans had in the past is gone, and that they should stop holding onto “ghosts”, literally that the character they have created in their heads is dead. Fans should “Let [him] go” so that he can progress as an artist and express himself freely. The stress of having to satisfy so many conflicting desires on behalf of his audience is too much, and he collapses – folds in on himself.
