::: Grow Beets When Sad :::

The " golden beets " in my hands in this picture ( http://moonreflecting.tumblr.com/post/6747068330 ) I grew organically while directing an organic farm at a healing retreat center in beautiful Sedona Arizona many moons ago. The soil there had not been farmed since the times of the Sinagua Indians who inhabited the Sedona and Verde Valleys. I pulled these two beets intertwined out of the soil and to my surprise they were united in the shape of a heart! A golden heart beet ! So I showcased it at our booth on a sunday at the Flagstaff farmer's market and a really nice lady asked to buy it for her anniversary. I thought that was a really sweet gift even though I was really attached to my beet and wanted to maybe make root cuttings from it!!! But I let it go for her donation of $7.00 :)

Grow Beets when Sad represents the struggle of my people in Cuba, where my family is from. They had to survive off very limited supplies and hence where blessed with " accidentally " becoming one of the world's most organically self-sustainable countries in the world. It has been a struggle in Cuba  having to do with less, but those whom retreated to the natural life in the hills to be in their natural element of working with the earth and being happy with the simplicities of life, ultimately survived amidst the poverty and isolation. There are Cuban Rastafari families living in the mountains of Cuba who live very well and happily in their natural rootsical life. Although there has been much sadness and frustration with dealing with not having access to modern society, there is a joy in knowing that going back to the Earth, they ( We ) will always be taken care of in the ways of natural happiness.

The symbolism behind it is that music makes everything feel better and immersing yourself in the vitality of life, like growing a garden can uplift your spirits, even cure depression, because in this day most people have very little access to nature, to Source, or have forgotten where they come from.
