Flavoured in equal parts treasure hunter and DJ, Menqui is likely to play a New Wave banger as an odd disco song and much more stuff which is hard to describe. His open minded style landed him a monthly slot on Cashmere Radio, ‘Past Forward’, which he hosts alongside Kryptic DJ and Hendrik Stein. His record label R-i-O also gets a mention, which Menqui co-owns alongside Nadia D’Alo and Benedikt Frey

This mix is a response to the vibrant and zestful spirit that prevails in the School of Ecopoetics at Warsaw’s Institute of Reportage, offering accompaniment to the group’s practical and speculative preoccupations. Taking cue from the idea of “fourth world musics” developed by the late Jon Hassell, the tracklist features artists orbiting around his primitivist-futurist melding of traditional ethnic styles and avantgarde composition. Through this concept, he has helped to develop a listening-based planetary consciousness in music, encompassing different biomes and strata. From the planet’s molten core to the orbit, along tectonic plates, rivers basins and convergence patterns, the pieces arranged in six chapters offer sonic excursions into territories and habitats both real and imaginary.
