Exploring Arpeggios (2023)

My first song exploring the A Natural Minor Scale. What interested me was the similarity to the C Major Scale in that they both only use the white piano keys. Being new, I wondered what the difference was. My intuition told me it's centered on the different root note of the harmony and melody. Using ChatGTP as a mentor, I learned it is also the chords: A Natural Minor tends to use minor chords whereas C Major tends to use Major chords. Here's my first attempt at using the A Natural Minor Scale!

I learned chords, chord progressions, harmonies, melodies, and ostinatos in 15 minutes from my first music theory lesson, and then composed this song afterwards on my own. It is magic.

This is a song I composed in 2002 or 2003 with Fruity Loops 3.

It is a remix of "Whiplash" by JFK, but contains extra composition. If JFK has any problems with this video, I will gladly and quickly take it down. I am just a fan.

I first heard of "Whiplash" from the Mischief 3000 Episode II underground car racing video by Teckademics, which features the Gumball 3000 rally.

Turns out Dustin, the creator of the Mischief series digs my remix:

Popcorn, a Gershon Kingsley / Hot Butter Remix Remix.

This is a song I composed in 2002 or 2003 with Fruity Loops 3.

It is a remix of "Popcorn" originally by Gershon Kingsley in 1969 and later by Hot Butter, an instrumental cover band, in 1972. (If Gershon Kingsley or Hot Butter has any problems with the content of this video, I will glady and quickly take it down. I am just a fan.)

Popcorn (Gershon Kingsley Hot Butter Remix) (2002-2003)

This was done years ago, either 1999 or 2000, in Fast Tracker 2, using samples from a Sega Genesis emulator. The entire song was tracked with individual notes. not "loop recorded".

The original song was composed by the amazing Yuzo Koshiro.

In an interesting turn of events, our first video game Decimation X, http://xona.com/decimationx, became Japan's #1 top rated Xbox LIVE Indie Game and the first game to knock us off our pedistal to #2 was Protect Me Knight, produced by Ancient Corp., a company Yuzo Koshiro started! I considered this to be an honor. Since that time, we have had many top games in Japan:

Dot-Calm

A remix of a song I composed in Fast Tracker II. I composed this remix in 2002 or 2003 with Fruity Loops 3, now called FL Studio.

The name is pronounced like "dot-com", inspired by an early Xbox LIVE commercial which shows many gamers meeting up and playing online, all with cool gamertags, and even voice modification. One of the guys had a gamertag "Dot-Calm". I loved it and used it!

Furthermore, "Right Here, Right Now" I first heard from Ray Chan's 3D rendering portfolio demo. Ray's a good friend of ours and he was going to be our first graphics artist for Saw Tooth Distortion, what eventually (10 years later) became Xona Games.

Not sure what the original "Deep Inside" is, but this is apparently number two.

This was composed for Evolutionary Prototype, a 2D side and overhead scrolling shoot 'em up video game. It was never finished or released. It was first video game of Saw Tooth Distortion, which eventually became (10 years later) Xona Games (http://xona.com).

The level this music went to was was deep into the game, one of the last stages, where you would be deep inside the enemy forces on their home planet. Hence the title, "Deep Inside".

I have always loved the strange and eerie beat and lead to this song, which perfectly matched the essence of the game at the point in question.

It was composed back in 1999..2000 in Fast Tracker 2.

Listening to this song again after so many years, it seems to have a resemblance to R-Type. I would not be surprised if it was a form of, perhaps subconscious, inspiration for the track.
