What happens to us at moments of transformative experience? The underlying connective tissue that binds the structures of our constructed selves dissipate and reform around the rupture. The network of social relations, regulations and adaptive possibilities specific to a social group which are categorized in terms of location, profession, class, race become interpellated through a propulsive architecture speeding full throttle through time. The facilitation of moments that usher the being into a state of dematerialization is of utmost political and spiritual importance. However, the immaterial labor necessitating the production of meaning remains tethered to a material economy, and there lies the ambiguity at the heart of the problem. We negotiate these contradictions by engaging in the marketplace of ideas in order to know what counts as art and to know where its ontological boundaries are so they can be pushed against. This is a reactionary position. We concede to our pathetic artlessness. We pay tribute to ugliness so that our desire to create can function.
