Cataclysm by Miracle Of Sound

The album Synemotion, is a journey through the complex emotional states we experience when we are overwhelmed by concerns and fears – escapist feelings in the song, “Run Away”, anger and frustration in “Rumpus” – wanting to cower and hide in “Subterfuge” – longing and nostaglia in “Elegy” and the experience of disappointment and let-down in the song “Deception”. Finally, letting go and receiving the feeling in the song “Reception” – and the awareness and sensation of irony knowing it will all start over again in the “World of Warcraft”.

The title track, “Synemotion” expresses in words this entire journey from pain and fear to release and hope. But most importantly the song uncovers how we cope with pain, fear, disappointment, depression, embarrassment and futility, it uncovers what actually happens to us, when we are overwhelmed by experience, and with a strange twist of perception, gifts the listener a path out of the darkness and despair, into an even more compelling and complex palette of emotions and sensations. The song gives hope and strength to walk through life even with wounds and disfigurement and have an even greater experience than before.

Lyrics:

There are times in life when we feel chased, chased by the shadows of past consequence and innate ideas and beliefs -we try hard to keep things from falling apart, do our best possible, are heedful and mindful. Every day, it may seem the world is against us – we stretch ourselves and find powers we never realized we could reach and every day, outdo ourselves.

But there are crucial moments where things start to break down, and a torrent of doubts breaks out, and this questioning of beliefs leaves such a feeling of displeasure that permeates your being, until you want to just want to give up and let life take its course.

“Anything I do, won’t change things,” you think to yourself. And if this moment passes quickly it may leave you untouched. In time though, you find yourself trapped and though quite aware that any means of “escaping” will not modify affairs, you want to RUN AWAY.

To those whose minds unwillingly or willingly settle in a deep despair and cannot cope with life’s complications, and even to those who know the same concerns and fears will follow them wherever you go, there is one small difference between people who are brave enough to get up once more and break through the barriers and those who run away and remain trapped.

It is the shock of unwelcome emotions that blows us away and damages us; leaving us permanently wounded and guaranteeing our unfortunate lifestyles. But those who walk through life with wounds that hurt at the slightest touch and are not bothered by their ugliness, not bothered by the pain remembered and not worried of how many more scars will disfigure them, are the ones who are released, freed to feel again and experience even more. And with the next wave, what was once a torrent of unbearable emotion, becomes a colorful, complex and more compelling palette of moods and feelings, gifting us the ability to create and combine, not only a synesthesia of the senses but also the feelings – Synemotion.

"Love Will Heal" is a love song to Self. Its essence though is a reminder that we all "know what love is" and it isn't a matter of having faith, but knowing it within oneself first and then experiencing it with others. - OH.

The Story of an Angel and the Ballad “Love Will Heal” 

A short time after the release of the metal album, "Synemotion", I went to the studio and laid down the instrumentals for a new song idea.

A close friend overheard it, walked in and said, “That melody might make a good love song.”

"No, really," they said, “Just strip out all the instruments and simplify the melody. It is for a love song.”

“I don’t know anything about love,” I said, pretty defiantly as I turned away.

My friend paused, looked at me with a mixture of concern and sadness and finally said, “You know what love is, of course you do."

“Besides,” they said, “I’ve read some of that stuff you write in that black journal slash lyric book you have lying about.”

I felt a tinge of melancholy after that conversation. Over the next weeks, I dropped the song, and even though there were some great reviews about the new album, things were looking disheartening and uncertain.

Usually, at times like those I turn to my lyric book but it was nowhere in sight.

I asked my friend if they had seen it. They said no.

Four days later, the book was on my laptop with a note: “OH., you know what love is.”

The lyrics to a song called, “Love Will Heal” were on a sheet of white paper.

The words appeared strangely familiar.

I quickly flipped through my journal and it dawned on me that the song was composed of sentences from various entries all stitched and woven together in this exquisite manner.

Attached was my melody line from the previous song and an idea for pre-chorus and chorus for the piano.

It did not take me long to figure out what “angel” did this. They told me later they felt moved, dropped everything they were doing for days and nights as the song pieced together.

I hope you find this song as beautiful as I do. I am not sure yet if this will, be part of an EP next spring or this song just stands on its own for what it is, but I feel certain it had to come out now as it is and that this song could help others heal their souls as much as it did for me.
