When She Left

Sometimes I see a man sitting alone and staring at the sky. "What do you see up there?" I asked him one day. "Sit with me young boy," he answered. In fear I ran away. Many years have gone by and this young boy forgot about an old man. After many winters I saw him again sitting in a corn field watching the sky. "Who are you?" I asked. He smiled. "I was waiting for you," he replied. "Join me and look up there. What you will see may surprise you." We watched and I saw mountains, I saw tears, rivers, people walking in the streets. I saw light and I saw darkness. "Is it too late to understand?" I asked him. He pointed his finger up and I saw it. A blue sky. "Magic is not the end goal, nor the starting point. The magic is in the attempt," he said and we smiled.

"A Guide for Lost Travellers" is the 2nd album in which Gašper explores the possibilities of a different perception of music and interaction with listeners. The album is not just a collection of notes and melodies, but a selection of thoughts and emotions. Designed as a manual or a guide accompanied by different illustrations, it invites listener to think deeper about the music. 8 instrumental and 2 vocal compositions intertwine and create a narrative that spins in front of our ears like a film miniature, and allows us to think and fantasize. In collaboration with Dejvid Knežević, a graphic designer and illustrator, they designed a sound exhibition that allows us to enter into the mind of two artists.

The question posing itself is how to experience music as a result of one human being, exactly the same as everyone else, built from one body and limitless sensations.

X.U.L (Gašper Selko) uses music as a language by combining contemporary classical with elements of minimalism and experimental electronic music to explore the unique interaction between music and it's listeners. He played trumpet in his younger years, then went on to study music at a conservatory level. After finishing the Conservatory for Music in Ljubljana, he continued his studies at the Academy of Music Ljubljana where he graduated in a class of Tibor Kerekeš. During this time, he had already started experimenting with various musical genres! 

 

He is a member of several bands: Leni Kravac, ''MUSCAH," Good Vibration, and Yanu, Kamnik City Band. He also collaborates with many artists and groups such as Noctiferia, Murat and Jose, Igor Leonardi, Denis Beganovič, JaMirko, Damaris etc. Music is an important part of his life because everything he listens to, creates, and plays is a reflection of himself - from the power of metal to the perfection of classical music, and from the freedom of jazz to the diversity of folk and ethnic music, X.U.L.'s music is an integral part of who he is.
