Continuing to deliver Sounds From The Void, XVI Records are proud to welcome London based Producer Delonte Rivers back to the label, with his brand new EP ‘Delonte In Dub’ Having previously released his ‘Midnight Congas’ EP back in 2018 (as well as a slew of edits and releases with Banana Hill, Love Above Recordings and more) Delonte now channels an elevated state of consciousness into a new dubbed out, subterranean sonic offering.

Returning with the galvanising track ‘Rise Again’, Delonte enlists the vocals of Sir Moon (also the voice of local hellraisers Muckspreader) giving a furious manifesto on the state of the union. Psyched out guitar stabs reverberate ripple across a turbulent sea of low end frequencies, as a rock-steady rhythm section holds the line. ‘Dub Again’ unsurprisingly strips back the original into a state of ethereal and reverb soaked hypnosis. ‘Cosmic Frequencies’ bring a cosmic slice of bass weight, whilst ‘One For Road’ injects a surreal, eerie atmosphere into the proceedings. This record is one for a hazed-summer in a strange dystopian world.

Having released music under many guises over the years, (including his role as bandleader for Electronic / Hip Hop outfit Paper Tiger and releasing futuristic broken-beat as Captain Over with Trim & Manga Saint Hilare) Surmacz continues his exploration into Jazz and soothing sonics with his new LP ‘Timelines (Part 2)’.

Having unveiled the first instalment of the ‘Timelines’ series back in May (and subsequently winning support from Moses Boyd, BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing and more), Surmacz spent the following months channeling a new clearer consciousness, having benefited from the cathartic effects of releasing records free from the usual stresses that accompany it. With the seasons changing from winter to spring, the deep forest (which inspired the record’s creation) is summoned back to life, delivering a promise of optimism, and a glimmer of hope - ending the bleak months spent in lockdown. The resulting body of work is a completely absorbing and enthralling listening experience, Surmacz’s mastery of the bass clarinet and saxophone providing rich organic textures, melding with spacey synths, adding a touch of the avant garde as bruk-infused drums keep the record driving forwards.

A plethora of stimulating tones, ‘Morii’ combines vibrant soundscapes into a hazy twilight, in which Kai Meara dwells. The journey begins with his haunting track ‘Duel’, utilizing a rich sonic palette alongside a dusty selection of textures.  

'Morii' will be released via XVI Records on February 23rd.

Kai Meara - Swarm (TS Premiere)

Next up on XVI Records, it’s a Bristolian link-up, with two of the city’s most prominent up and comers; (Mushkilla and Jevon Ives) joining forces to deliver their rugged and raw new EP ‘Dillinger’. With both parties having built up a solid following over the past few years, the ‘Dillinger’ EP sees Jevon and Mush trading bars over head-nod inducing, psychedelic infused beats (courtesy of Jevon himself). 

The EP’s opener and title track ‘Dillinger’ lures the listener in with a cosmic vibraphone motif, before being joined by earth rattling subs and knocking beats - setting the perfect  scene for Jevon and Mushkilla to go straight for the gold. An electric meeting of minds powered by psilocybin and good times, the EP emerges through a haze of heavy smoke - bringing dark moments, witty lines and infinite style together in perfect harmony.

Having recently relocated to Vancouver in the name of continuing our rhythmic voyage, we at XVI are pleased to bring you the first offering from London-based beatsmith "Munro". First up is BYOG (Crown Heights), a summery hip hop infused , uptempo head nodder. Featuring an abstract but undeniably addictive baseline, and driving, crisp drum pattern, completed with rich golden analogue textures  . On the flip side, SIBWIR is a deep, slow-mo chugger. It's uplifting chord pattern and spine tingling vocals provide an absolute summertime treat, perfect for hazy beach sessions.

“Say my Name” is the debut EP from Tidelines, a new soulful electronic pop duo from South East London. 

Their first release is a bright debut that exists in it’s own universe of pastel tones, sensual r’n’b and spaced out electronic pop. The title track carefully melds a rainbow palette of soft synths alongside dark rhythms and wispy r’n’b vocals that builds into something majestic. “Receive Me” sees a twinkling melody gliding over shuffling, twitchy beats. Whilst “Metalic” immerses the listener into a world of syrupy spirituality and mysterious, haunting textures.

“Say my Name” is an intricate and luscious first listen that weaves a rich aural journey and is sure to position Tidelines as London’s future alt-pop stars.

Tidelines return with a new EP of sensual, shimmery electronic lead r’n’b.

The South East London girl boy duo made up of Niomí Eve and Kailin draw influences from both sides of the Atlantic—including Arca, Night Slugs, and American R&B singers like Tinashe and Cassie.

“Dream” follows their debut EP “Say My Time”; a gorgeous debut which went on to win over early adopters and key tastemakers, the online chatter about Tidelines intricate electronic pop posited them as London’s latest emerging alt-pop stars. New EP “Dream” matches the shape and surreal outline of reality that our subconscious can take on. First track “How To Love Me” is drenched in layers of sound and skittering electronica, but it’s also a gorgeous and majestic pop song beneath the surface. Niomí’s velvety vocals slide through the mix, while the synths themselves seem to wheeze and soar.

The duo met by chance in London. Claiming to be complete opposites in so many ways - from musical differences to the way they see the world - they named themselves Tidelines, which describes the debris formed when two bodies of water meet. 

Both born in London but raised in different parts of the world - from Bejing (Kailin) to Ireland (Niomi) - they also bring a synthesis of cultures to their music. The EP is soft and ethereal, but with darker simmering undertones that twist and turn, reflecting the duo’s conflicting natures.

“Lying”, the second track on the EP juxtaposes dense, unsettling production with softly sung vocals about pain and heartbreak. Whereas title track “Dream” offers an experimental angularity with it’s twinkling waves and club-leaning production.

Brighton based act Yumi And The Weather aka Ruby Taylor is set to release her brand new EP this November. Lead and title track ‘Something Tells Me’ kicks the EP off with an upbeat yet melancholic record – the single perfectly showcases Rubys talent for writing anthemic crossover pop songs.

Following on from a flurry of well received releases, XVI welcome a new face to their tight knit crew of artists. Enter London based Peter Bailey (AKA Delonte Rivers).

Having previously released music under his DJ Fortay moniker, his new alias Delonte Rivers, see's Bailey drawing on a wider array of influences, manifesting his desire for all the amazing sounds this planet and its people has to offer.

The EP's title track is a hypnotic and atmospheric cut, plunging the listener in a twilight world as a meandering saxophone calls out through a haze of sliding shadowy textures, of as a deep rhythms section pulses through the darkness. Maakye takes a more spiritual downtempo and holistic approach. Heavily percussive and full of earth tones, a haunting vocal sample echoes amidst a sea of tranquillity. 'Fela's House Party' (the EP's closer) weaves together a sense of 70's Psychedelia and a rolling bassline, immediately launching into undeniably addictive groove, before being joined by a triumphant Afro-beat fanfare. Perfect for adding inciting some dancefloor movement.

Next up on the ever-eclectic XVI Records, a shadowy figure steps into the spotlight: enter the mysterious Captain Over, whose dark yet soulful bruk-infused tracks soundtrack the next stage of their voyage towards the sun.  For his debut outing, Captain Over calls on the abstract vocal stylings of the legendary Trim (Roll Deep, 1800 Dinosaur) on opening track ‘SICK’. 

On the remix, they hand the controls over to XVI homestay Books (following on from the success of his previous ‘Feel It In My Bones’ and ‘High Praise Edits Vol 1’ releases which won praise from the likes of The Black Madonna, Moodymann, Gilles Peterson and Seven Davis Jr) Books expertly crafts a cosmic footwork jam, full of his trademark soulful chords and eerie midnight saxophone licks.

Caves is a slow dubbed out skanker, heavy in reverb drenched ambience. 
Giant Shoe: the E.P’s Crescendo, sees spine chilling synth patterns paired with with digi-dub atmosphere swirling overhead in this post apocalyptic soundscape.

Returning to earth from the furthest reaches of the universe, XVI Records are proud to present the newest sonic offering from Captain Over.

Following his collaborations with Trim and Manga Saint Hilare (and gaining support from the likes of Complex, London In Stereo, Trench, Red Bull etc) Captain Over follows up his “Deep Blue” EP on Singaporean label Darker Than Wax with two mind-bending new cuts.

Preach!!’s swung drums and hypnotic vocal loop launch the listener into a swirling blend of astral textures, uplifting flutes and soulful keys. On the flip, Jupiterrr takes on an edgier approach, with the Captain’s signature broken beat / grime hybrid drum patterns taking centre stage, before being joined by unsettling keys and a punchy, screw-face inducing bass.

After setting sail on our maiden voyage a little over a year ago, we are now pleased to bring you our fourth release from the XVI camp. Featuring Eleven artists and family members , Imitating Life plunges the listener into a lucid soundscape, channeling new depths and ascending dizzying heights. Featuring a few familiar faces from our previous outings (as well as a few new additions) the album Spreads it's wings over a plethora of genres. Taking flight over an every changing musical landscape, from the blissful, cavernously deep sounds of Aeoukuo and Deminai through beautifully dark and melodic, left field compositions from Bambooman , Will Ward, My Panda Shall Fly & Liston whilst not forgetting to spend time above ground with dance floor infused productions from Real, Decyfer and Mau'lin. Volume Two continues our voyage, to shores unknown leaving rich textures and undeniable grooves in our wake.
