XYZtape - Various Artists 2020

FM label reconnects music, fashion and design. Established in 2019 by Milan Fatrla, label joins the flourishing scene of Prague with a vision of a music, in which the new revisits the old. A vision where strongly-rooted love for hip-hop merges with passion for everything electronic and danceable, to offer records where these two genres meet and reconnect. Every release offers a set of tracks which provide options for the DJ: dance floor slammers, broken synthesis and acapellas DJ tools. 

With its modular attitude, FM label plays with norms of record sleeve design and fashion. In its first phase the label will put out three trilogies, each trilogy in a different package developed with local designers and artists. 

First release by Credit 00, including a remix and an acapella from the mighty Egyptian Lover, is held in a cardboard sleeve which can be reshaped into a vinyl display holder.

Welcome back to this month edition od REDCAST, bringing you yet another live set that takes you away for a trip to somewhere you've never been before. 

Lotus Wash is a producer and electronic performer based in Prague. His sonic dictionary is based around experimentation with hardware electronic instruments and devices. He is associated with Noise Kitchen Prague collective and several bands from the indie scene (Bert and friends, Never Sol).

He describes his recording as following:

"Music for this podcast is exploring some ideas brought up by the isolation and introspective journeys of one’s mind caused by the lockdown. Most of the tracks have faster tempos, which provide an elastic, dense grid for developing eclectic rhythmic ideas and subtle changes to feel of the beats. On the contrary, the music keeps quite a static feel due to the slow advance of pads and atmospheres."

Take a deep breath and this is going to be one long exhale.

One of the most lasting imprints which soviet occupation left on identities of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people is something we all usually perceive as ordinary or boring, insignificant almost. The concrete dys-utopia of the prefab housing, built by the communists in the 2nd half of the previous century was a place of coming-of-age for many. Endless blocks of flats, parched public places, the unfulfilled modernity’s idea of a community life, but also a vast playground for the youngest, whose imagination didn’t let them settle. Growing up in one of those imaginary worlds himself, Czech producer Vision of 1994 taps into the post-soviet collective memory on his ‘Concrete Memories’ album, released as a six-track vinyl and a full-length digital on Prague’s Harmless Youth label. He takes his childhood and teenage memories as a point of departure, but transforms his recollections into an universal sonic realm, where anyone, even one without similar origins, might feel that nostalgic rush.

PRÉMIÈRE: Vision Of 1994 – Drowning (Oliver Torr Remix) [Harmless Youth]

Oliver Torr's take on a traditional folk song from Liptovská Revúca, a track from the upcoming Liptov compilation.

Liptov is a 12 track collaboration between contemporary Czech and Slovak electronic music producers, each tasked with reinterpreting 1982s “Liptov - A Panorama of Folk Song and Music Culture”. The original collection sought to preserve the musical cultural heritage of the region, while the “Liptov” compilation maps the current spectrum of the electronic scene of both countries, across genres and styles. Initiated by Prague-based community project Punctum, and released on the Punctum Tapes label, the artists of Liptov not only confront the past with the present via the reimagining of traditional music, but also contribute to the ongoing emancipation of the local electronic music scene.

Compilation will be released on 12'' vinyl and digitally on February 12, 2021.
