In 2009 we were commissioned to remix Kings of Leon's "I Want You." We enlisted our two friends, Adam Forkner of White Rainbow, and Rebecca Carlisle-Healy, to play bass and sing on it, respectively. This was to be for an album of remixes that ended up being scrapped and this remix was never released. We're going to leave this up on the Internet until someone makes us take it down.

Where Does This Disco? is about love and compact discs. They're both on the edge of becoming obsolete, and they both get scratched if you play them too hard. They're both mirrors, but one is still the best medium we have for connecting with each other.

Where Does This Disco? is our first release on Downtown Records. It's also the namesake for our upcoming North American tour, during which a special editioned object containing this song will be available for purchase. The remix is by the wildly talented Jerome LOL, one-half of DJ Dodger Stadium, and wholly from the Internet.

Reeling from the loss of Prince, we dug up an unfinished cover of "Annie Christian" we started in 2011, while recording our DFA album Shangri-La, and finished it. "Annie Christian" has always struck us as one of the weirdest Prince songs, a loose narrative of dark true stories from 1979-1981: John Lennon's assassination, the Atlanta murders, and the FBI's Abscam corruption sting. Prince was wounded by the evil in the world, and did a great deal both privately and publicly to bring the light.

YACHT - Isolation

“Do They Owe Us a Living?” is one of the very first songs recorded by the British anarchist punk band Crass in 1977. The chorus is “do they owe us a living? Of course they fucking do,” meaning that we all—regardless of who we are or where we come from or what we do for work—deserve quality of life. That this idea is still radical in 2020 is testament to the infuriating lack of creativity, empathy, and joy that constitutes life in a purely capitalist society. 

Crass sold their albums so cheaply they lost money on every sale; this single costs $5 and we’re donating 100% of proceeds to One Fair Wage’s Emergency Coronavirus Tipped and Service Worker Support Fund, which provides direct cash assistance to restaurant workers, car service drivers, delivery workers, personal service workers and more who are owed a living, now as ever.

We're revisiting all our influences in quarantine. 

This is a cover of "Multi-Family Garage Sale," from Land of the Loops' 1995 7" single (and 1996 album, Bundle of Joy). This album made a huge impact on me (Jona) as it showed me that bridge could be built between DIY Pacific Northwest indie-pop and sample-based electronic music. 

If you're taking a lot of walks around your neighborhood right now, this is a great soundtrack for looking at the world and appreciating small things. 

"Land of the Loops’ Alan Sutherland was just another Minor Threat fan who couldn’t hold a band together until his conscientious parents bought him a sampler for graduation. The result was a couple of cassette releases and a CD for Seattle’s Up Records, Bundle of Joy, that lures Beat Happening’s Heather Lewis and others into what the Young Marble Giants might’ve done had they had the technology—a loop-driven basement party for the international pop underground." YACHT Quarantine Cover Series No. 4 

This is the most beautiful Aphex Twin song, "Avril 14th," from the album Drukqs (2001), composed originally for a high-tech Yamaha player piano called the Disklavier. It's been raining nonstop in Los Angeles and we've been spiraling inwards into all our favorite music; we read Marc Weidenbaum's 33 1/3 book about "Selected Ambient Works" recently and learned that Richard D. James does a lot of his best work in between naps. This is a song for the in-between period of sleep and waking.

YACHT - Avril 14th

This is a cover of the 2004 song "You Fuck Me Up," by Dub Narcotic Sound System, a lo-fi funk band named after the recording studio in Olympia, Washington, where many of our friends and extended Pacific Northwest community have recorded albums over the decades for K Records and various other satellite labels. 

The original vocal on this song is performed by the Olympia underground art-ward multi-instrumentalist staple Heather Dunn (Tiger Trap, Liarbird, Lois, Raincoats, The No-No's, Halo Benders, Dennis Driscoll) whose fantastic and loose performance taps into an undeniable, elemental horniness. It's very alive. 

This music, and the larger constellation of music that constitutes its scene, has always represented, to us, the very fundamentals of punk. 

In its infinite capacity to miss the point, Pitchfork called this song "horrifically off-key" and "endlessly bad" back in the day.

YACHT—Young Americans Challenging High Technology—is a post-pop trio based in Los Angeles. They are neither young nor all American. 

YACHT are new wave radio rejects; perpetual outsiders; canny observers; dreamer-prophets who average seven years ahead of their time. Founded in 2002 in the Pacific Northwest DIY scene, they’ve since released seven full-length albums and dozens of singles and EPs, always supplementing their releases with multimedia projects and high-concept experiments. 

An unplayable compact disc, a philosophical handbook, an eyewear collection, a fragrance, an app, a 62-foot video installation: their ambition to make exceptional things is voracious, playful, and limitless. For YACHT, music is a world and everyone is invited. 

YACHT’s seventh album, Chain Tripping, which was composed in collaboration with Artificial Intelligence, was nominated for a GRAMMY Award for Best Immersive Audio Album in 2020. A feature documentary about YACHT’s work with AI, The Computer Accent, was released in 2024. New Release is the first studio album from YACHT in five years. Recorded at their home in Los Angeles, the album is a slice of sly post-pop, playfully occupying a parallel timeline somewhere between 1983 and infinity.
