Hello and welcome along to another PFG Progcast... each week bringing you an exclusive podcast/DJ Mix from different locations around the world. Today we take our second trip into Scotland, and another talented individual from Edinburgh. Ladies and Gentleman.... Steven Doyle! 

Steven is a house head from the burgh, whose musical tastes are wide ranging and cover a broad spectrum of genres...

 It was in 1998 I stumbled across a night called Sublime @Wilkie house in Edinburgh, although it was probably a year later when a visit to the legendary Venue nightclub that I became hooked on the whole clubbing culture. 
I was fascinated by the DJs and how they created these amazing soundtracks we danced to and eager to reprise that feeling I picked up my first SoundLabs around 2002.
Over time I practiced and taught myself how to mix on vinyl, eventually upgraded to 1210s which i still have today. Since then I have learned how to use different formats for DJing too.

Although having no formal musical background I just enjoy mixing tunes and making people smile and dance, and always prefer to play a warming up and building style , rather than pigeonholing a specific genre. I feel Progressive is a style of mixing that creates a soundscape with grooves and rhythms , beats and basslines .

Hope you enjoy the mix, its an honour to be asked for my first ever broadcasted set, thank you PFG!

PFG The Progcast - Episode 34 - Steven Doyle

After many years as a drummer back in the 70s and 80s I fell out of love with contemporary music in the 90s, listening mostly to classical music. I had dabbled in the Acid House scene in the late 80s and early 90s, however after being forced to don a suit in order to try and forge a career, I had to pretty much leave music behind for a while.

In 1996, however, I happened to chance on a Dance music radio station during a late-night drive back to London from Sheffield and Fluke's 'Atom Bomb' made me realise everything had changed. I'm as in love with Dance and Electronica now as I was the day I went out and bought 'Oto'.

I create varied albeit predominantly house-based mixes and, having cut my teeth on belt drives back in the day, and then progressed to Technics 1210 Mk2s, Pioneer CDJ 800 Mk2s and a Pioneer DDJ-T1 controller using Traktor Pro, Pioneer XDJ-RX2 standalone unit, again with Rekordbox, I've recently got a Pioneer Opus Quad, although I'm also keen to produce my own music as well. That's on my to-do list for this year and on.
