Music For World Peace: Improvised Guitar and then a Stack of Overdubs 4.23.2025

One of my favorite methods for creating music by myself is to record to a click (in Ableton Live) starting with one instrument. The first instrument I play a continuous improvisation for a set period of time and this becomes the arrangement for the song (i try to do no edits or note-repair to the 1st instrument).  
Then I start layering. 
For this video/song I started with the Stratocaster (most of this video shows this single, improvised take) 
Next I added bass (Fender Jazz Bass) and I looped the 1st 4 bars, while listening to the Stratocaster part and click. I came up with an exact part to compliment the Stratocaster improvisation and then move on to the next 4 bars. I repeated this process for the whole song. My goal is to create a supportive part that makes the Strat improvisation feel composed.
Then I repeated this process of section-by-section composing with a Telecaster guitar layer, a lap steel layer (Gretsch),
then Drums which i did a bit differently. 
Drums were recorded while listening to a mix of all other instruments plus click, in a continuous way straight through the whole piece. I believe I did 6 full takes of drums and then edited ("comped") the best parts from each to create one continuous drum track.
Then I added 1 more drum take played with mallets for washy cymbal hits to add some drama.
