A selection of classic 'Shaka Style' Power Play Extended 12"s from the late 70s/early 80s period, mainly using the steppers drum pattern Shaka is known for championing. These 12"s either segue directly into a dub or the part 2 deejay cut - this extended mix is known in Reggae as a 'Discomix' as this made them ideal to be played out at 'Discotheques' at the time. I have let most of the tracks play out to showcase the dubs or deejay cuts. I refer to these tracks as 'Power Play' as I will often play them out at sessions at to get the crowd going, and I believe Shaka did too.

During this time of lockdown in the UK I have become increasingly grateful and appreciative of the small things in life which are so often overlooked in times of prosperity. So I deliberately chose tracks which celebrate the joy of everyday life, with an emphasis on uplifting vocals and subject matter; I hope this mix helps you to stay positive in these troubled and uncertain times. Music is medicine!

Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer from Togo, Yao Olagbedji, musically affirms his filiation to the legends, Bob Marley, Fela Kuti and Miles Davis. They subtly inspire his music, but also his messages. Always with in the background, a desire for independence to promote an original sound and a message that resonates with an Africa in full boiling, as an echo of his first album "Alerte en Afrique" produced in the early 2000s. This production is powered by the African Syndicate Band.
