For more than a decade, Philipp Priebe has been releasing an emotional take on house music that melds melancholic warm sounds with driving elements. It's a style that dates back to his teenage years, when he began collecting records in a small town in Germany. Since 2020, his music has landed on Stellar, his own label, and that includes Movements In An Empty Department Store, his latest album that compromises eight original compositions soundtracking one night  alone in an empty department store with deeply driving, sensitive dance music that strongly tempts you to fall in love on the dance floor.

DJ FRM is Rotterdam record store Clone Records’ front desk familiar face, Operator Radio resident, and techno-aficionado, having recently started co-running vinyl record labels Full Range Motion and Fusion of Thought. DJ FRM’s techno DJ-sets are an amalgamation of spaced-out loops and dance floor ready cuts, drawing from his extensive record collection and experience working in the Clone store.

This set was recorded at local legendary techno club Perron, August 2 2024.

UK duo Yard One returns to Philipp Priebe’s Stólar this December, with a new EP full of tracks oscillating between Yard One and their Tryst alter ego, featuring Korean vocals from Vovian and Red Pig Flower and remixes from Alex Albrecht and Eli Verveine.
The ‘San-lim Yok’ EP was composed throughout the past year utilising field recordings taken through South Korean’s Busan and Seoul and came to life through a meeting of friends Yard One, Red Pig Flower and Vovian, playing on the same line up at Busan’s Output Club. After the summer of 2023 in South Korea, Yard One returned home to slowly sculpt the project into what you’re hearing today and during this process once again piqued the
interest of Stólar’s Philipp Priebe, the label naturally felt like a perfect home following Yard One’s ‘Shifting Sands’ on the imprint back in 2022.
Opener ‘Output, Until The Sun Rises…’ is a dedication to the beginning of this project, a dark and dubby journey fuelled by saturated drums, hazy atmospherics and Vovian’s hypnotic vocals. ‘Forest Bathing In Busan (San-lim Yok)’ follows next under the Tryst more ambient leaning alias, once again featuring Vovian’s mesmeric voice amongst snaking subs,
unfurling textures and organic percussion. Next up Yard One joins forces with Red Pig Flower for the deep techno tinged ‘Sky Capsule’, a subtly nuanced journey through breathy vocals from Red and intricately intertwined synth work.
‘Haeundae Beach (The End Of The Line)’ then sees Tryst and Vovian dive deeper into swirling pads, bubbling tones and meditative vocals before ‘Gwangan Night Drive’ offers up broken drums, heavy doses of sub and glistening atmospherics. Australia’s Alex Albrecht of Albrecht La’Brooy then adds his unique twist to ‘Forest Bathing In Busan’ before Eli Veveine concludes the release with her dynamic dance floor focused twist on
‘Haeundae Beach (The End Of The Line)’, fragmenting the original’s ambient aesthetic into a twisted peak time groove.

Shuya Okino is a globally recognized DJ, producer, and cultural icon, best known as one half of Kyoto Jazz Massive, Japan’s pioneering jazz and electronic music duo. A passionate advocate for Japanese club culture, he skillfully blends the influences of jazz and electronic music, connecting audiences around the globe and across different musical landscapes. In addition to his work with Kyoto Jazz Massive, Okino is the founder of the renowned music venue The Room in Tokyo and is also an accomplished author and music curator.
On his second visit to our Livingroom, we sat down with Shuya to talk about his experience at Kasheme and his aspiration to create soundscapes for all kinds of public spaces.

For more than a decade, Yard One have played the long game, releasing smart, often under-the-radar records that quietly land in the bags of selectors who value depth over hype. With Neuroglow EP, the duo circle back to their home base, Tact Recordings, not with nostalgia but with the same grounded confidence that’s defined their output since the beginning. “Synapse,” our premiere for today, captures that ethos in full: precise, atmospheric, and unafraid to sit in its own mood without forcing a payoff.

“Synapse” feels like a mood caught mid-transition, weightless but restless, like something unfolding in slow motion under strobe lights. There’s a glassy clarity to the pads, stretched just wide enough to pull the track into dream territory, but underneath it all, that modular sequence keeps things twitching, alert. And then come the strings, not ornamental, but emotional, like a voice without words. In “Synapse” Yard One are sketching atmosphere with intent. The track lingers in your memory because it hits that strange, rare note between melancholy and movement.

‘Neuroglow’ EP has already gotten great feedback from DJs worldwide and will be available for purchase on July 23.

@yard-one-music return to @tact-recordings late July with the four-track ‘Neuroglow’ EP, showcasing the duo’s take on hypnotic house and techno.

Over the past decade Jordan Bruce and Larry Jones aka Yard One have been etching their mark into contemporary electronic music, releasing material on the likes of Philipp Priebe’s Stólar, Tokyo’s Sound Of Vast, Cinthie’s Collective Cuts, Malin Genie’s Vigenère, Apparel Music’s Tronic sub-label, Yama Music and of course the co-founded alongside Fletcher, Tactics and Tact Recordings where they return here.

Opening the EP is ‘Munte’ a tribal tinged jam fuelled by organic drums, twitchy percussive elements, oscillating subs, airy chord sequences, dubbed out swells and arpeggio acid-laced bass flutters. ‘Dazed’ follows next and leans into the duo’s deeper side courtesy of swirling textural elements, jazzy, delayed piano lines and a heavily swung rhythm section.

‘Synapse’ follows next, exploring the pairs love for the deeper end of the Techno spectrum as billowing atmospherics, cinematic strings and sporadic bass notes ebb and flow atop a robust drum groove. ‘Orexis’ then concludes the EP, embracing a more microhouse aesthetic with a focus on intricately intertwined, shuffled percussion while breathy pads, rumbling low end pulsations and murky echoes further fuel the subtly shifting loop-led vibe.

Yard One - Munte [Tact Recordings]

When mulling which direction to go in for RA's 1000th mix celebrations, many options came to mind. Some shadowy character 2-stepping around the fringe of our collective consciousness? An impossible-level IDM icon?

All tempting. But, ultimately, we are a DJ-forward publication and this is a DJ mix series. It felt truer to the history of the RA Podcast to release deep vault material from a time when the world of niche records felt different, tighter, more discrete.

The fourth-longest mix in the series' history is an unrepeatable marathon set recorded in 2012 at a superclub that no longer exists. 2012, incidentally, is farther away from 2025 than 2012 was from 2000... if we have to clock it, so do you.

It's the coming together of one British icon who passed away in 2020, and another whose time on the road has scaled back considerably as of late. DJ Harvey agreed to exactly one b2b set in his life: this one, with Andrew Weatherall.

The night took place at Trouw, an Amsterdam club already considered legendary before it shuttered its doors in the opening hours of 2015, as part of an RA series anchored around start-to-close combinations. Harvey was at the peak of an irresistible career second act, which dovetailed with a disco revival that dominated clubs for years. Weatherall, with infinite brownie points stockpiled from the '90s, remained everyone's favourite debonair psychonaut. 

What follows is 385 scintillating minutes of arpeggiated chug and slow-cresting climaxes: a moment when the resting heart rate of dance floors plunged lower than any comparable point in the 21st century. A masterclass, entirely self-contained in audio form.

If you've got time to spare, a fun side game is sussing out who plays what. A disco-dub cover of Echo & the Bunnymen? Smart money's on Weatherall. Exuberant EQ'ing of The Isley Brothers? Gotta be Harvey. As for the low 'n slow, lightly spangled house that was all the rage in the early 2010s (think Maxxi Soundsystem, Disco Bloodbath, Rub & Tug, C.O.M.B.I. and Full Pupp), it's anyone's guess. 127 BPM feels practically like an F1 car.

When we kicked off our RA.1000 campaign, we outlined a few goals: tick off a handful of long-awaited dream guests, honour architects who shaped the world around us and deliver recordings you truly can't hear anywhere else. Full send.

DJing and the mythmaking around it has undergone a quantum leap since 2012, let alone 2006, 1996 or 1989. For those of us who were kicking around in the former, there's a creeping melancholy that our prime is fast becoming a matter of historical record. The killing moon really did come too soon. 

Where will electronic music, DJ sets or any of this be in 2044? Hard to say. Best not to overthink that one. Instead, we want to say thanks to all contributors on the series so far. 'Solace' shows a more delicate side to the artist's production. Light atmospheres and clever use of intertwined melodies weave over a warm bass line and snappy drums. This one is as much for your wind down playlist as it is for your club sets.
