Yash @ Shipwrec Takeover On Open Source Radio 2022/02/03

A 1995-1997 mix of the ID&T compilations, mostly from the later editions which I believe are less dated. A blend of acid/techno/trance/house in a time where vibe was more important than genre, which still counts for something. Can't really remember the track listing, but they'll be easy to find on the interwebz. Mixed in 2019.

After a long summer break, we (re)open the season, with a thundering Guest mix by Yash.  Expect pounding Techno for the floor with  hypnotizing rhythms , psychedelic pads and exotic samples. Yash knows how to maintain the heat by skillful mixing and building up in dynamic. This is where I want to dance. Are you with me ? Turn up that volume.

The house music virus caught Yash somewhere in 1992 after hearing Twin Freaks from Gateway Experience. This has laid the foundation for introducing himself in harder genres at first. Gabber, early rave and hardtrance, which were very hot during the 90’s in the Netherlands. Gradually other styles filtered into his taste after visiting house parties in the early 00’s, such as techno and freakier kinds of house music. The endless rhythms of techno was what really changed his vision of what he liked and decided to buy turntables and a mixer to play tracks that he didn’t heard much on parties and in mixes of other DJ’s. 

After discovering electroclash and productions by The Hague based producer Alden Tyrell he decided playing only techno was a bit too shallow for his taste. After discovering CBS (Cybernetic Broadcasting System, the precursor of Intergalactic FM) he heard tracks Shake by Bombers, Sweet Dynamite by Claudia Barry and Patrick Cowley’s Megatron Man he immediately fell in love with the groovy rhythms, orchestral parts and luscious voices of disco. This left the same imprint on people that techno and house did, but years before! 

After discovering this trove of known and unknown gems he really caught the Westcoast sound virus, electro hip-hop, acid house, wave, funk, experimental electronics, nothing could quench his thirst for new music. The fresh approach of continuously introducing new and old music and blending genres into his sets makes him a versatile DJ for who genres don’t matter. Everything is a sort of reproduction of what came before in music but in a form that stayed true to the originators. They did what they felt or thought was good, Yash follows that spirit. Staying true to whatever he likes and keeping his skills on point by doing transitions that other might not do.

"The Red Planet will appear only when your mind is open". Mixed in 2022.

Having first appeared as far back as 1992, Red Planet Records was set up as one of U.R.’s sublabel / offshoots and ran until 2010. Only clocking up only 14 releases in the process, sometimes there is something to be said for the maxim “less is more”. Not to take away from the fantastically rich discography and the many incredible releases on U.R. itself. Red Planet is just one of those golden threaded series that when you pick up and examine in closer details, almost seems to be greater than the sum of its parts. There’s something both otherworldly and deeply enchanting about the series that makes each and every release a gem in it’s own right.

COSMIC DREAM CLUB - Berlin's Cool

Yash is a DJ whose musical boundaries are not well maintained. On The Low End Radio --- broadcasted on Radio Nul (twitch.tv/radio_nul) and Intergalactic FM (intergalactic.fm) on Wednesdays from 2000-2130 CET --- he showcases his variety. Ranging from not ordinary house and techno, deep space and driving electro, pounding or sophisticated acid bangers to soundtracks and exerimental electronics and contemporary classical. When he plays in a club, Yash tries to get the crowd moving and entertained. His arsenal are driven bangers, but also non-ordinary experimental dancing tracks which keeps the crowd on their toes and out of their comfort zone. It's not only fun, it's a mission to get you entertained. For this Discoteca podcast he decided to play a selection of his favorite downtempo cosmic/balearic/disco tunes.
