Los Angeles transplant Woolymammoth has signed with Alpha Pup Records this year for the release of his debut full-length album Filling Spots. Scheduled to release March 23rd across vinyl, CD, and digital formats, the fifteen track LP follows up a handful of singles and EPs since 2016. His music finds a bridge between experimental electronic and hip-hop, splicing together minimal rhythm schemes, raw analog samples, dynamic synth / processing work, and much more.

Woolymammoth's origins in San Francisco and the new community he has helped breed in Los Angeles find union in his craft, encapsulating a wide spectrum of subdued and explosive moments. The totality of Filling Spots contains this immersive affect, blending as one statement from track to track and giving the listener a journey that is constantly shifting. His bass-centric experiments churn and convulse under the surface, pulling you into a full-body listen. Avant-garde abstractions bubble beside strange, raw Eurorack samples, throwing tracks off balance again and again. “Mouthbreather” is disturbingly catchy and “Shadeslove” swims in a hypnotic stew of sounds. “Mustard (feat. Yokaze)” snaps into a quick-rolling mind melt, while “Riskybidness (feat. Tsuruda)” slips chaos between its beats. “Nofknway [124]UMTME (feat. Bleep Bloop)” bolts off in a blur of upbeats and pummels the brain into a sonic black hole.

Touring for the young producer has seen rapid development, performing at some of the worlds premiere experimental festivals and venues before the age of 21. Filling Spots is a summarization of this path and the many states of evolution Woolymammoth has gone through as a musician. Writing and recording for the new album was captured in part on the road, with the other portions sourced at his home studio in L.A. Working with a Eurorack modular system owner and Tsuruda's roommate Zach Countryman, Woolymammoth pulled from various oscillator modules within the instrument to build a world of sound all his own.

Features over Filling Spots include Liquid Amber recording artist Bleep Bloop, Renraku's Yokaze, and Courteous Family's Tsuruda, Cast, and Legoon. Ahead of the release, close friend and creative luminary Huxley Anne premiered the Yokaze feature track "Mustard" on her recent XLR8R podcast. Along with recent gigs performing with Bleep Bloop in North America, Woolymammoth is announcing more tour dates upon the release of Filling Spots in March, including a back to back set with EPROM and more dates with Bleep Bloop.

The product of a songwriting duo in the rich tradition of Tiga/Hulkkonen and Tiga/McCartney, “Stay Cool" marks a return of sorts to the classic Tiga sound, which is now the modern Tiga & Clarian sound. The kinda-underground acid techno grooves and magnanimously biting lyrics paint a picture so contemporary it threatens to make you live in the moment for the rest of your life.

What began organically with Clarian contributing material and production to Tiga’s 2016 No Fantasy Required LP has evolved into a contractually-mandated partnership. Having already worked with the likes of Jamie Principle, Felix Da Housecat and Guy Gerber, the Montreal-born musician is no stranger to “the hot collab," but was still taken aback by the rigorously enforced freedom he enjoyed during the "Stay Cool” sessions. “Tiga will be the first to tell you he has no ego in the studio, and in my experience that is the absolute truth,” says Clarian. “Every idea I have, every part I write, we split the credit right down the middle.”

“Stay Cool” is a real-time disintegration of the boundaries between Tiga’s public passion for music and his private obsession with digital entertainment currencies like Quarthonium Bronze and LavaBucks. “It occurred to me that what I could not stop myself from doing - typing 'HOLD YOUR POSITION' over and over in my crypto group chat - also served as an apt illustration of my heroic lifelong wrestling match with the idea of cool. And this epiphany has opened up my experience into a 360-degree panorama of creative possibility,” enthuses Tiga. “Soon, I'll be haggling over blueberries at the farmer’s market and Clarian will instantly turn in into the sound of the summer, whether you like it or you love it."

"You’re So Special” emerged from the songwriting team sitting around the drum machine in shirtsleeves with a pot of piping-hot coffee, waiting for piping-hot inspiration to strike. The lyrics ably grapple with the now, openly wondering about the direction of bleeding-edge compassion. “You see it everywhere, from airport bookstores stocked with variations on The Art of Not Giving a Fuck to airline pilots taking time off to work on themselves mid-flight,” hectors Tiga, wagging his finger for needed emphasis. “I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but what I also don’t pretend to have is patience for those who pretend to do.”

Eyed hawkmoth (Smerinthus ocellata)
The Eyed hawkmoth owes its name to the distinctive eye drawing on its hind wings. The bark-colored forewings provide perfect camouflage when resting on tree trunks during the day. In case of a disturbance, it pulls the forewings up jerkily. The moth now gives off the appearance of a face that suddenly stares at the troublemaker. Forward and backward swinging movements of the body intensify this threatening effect.

With a wingspan of up to 13 centimeters, it is a true "Jumbo". Its flying style is similar to that of hummingbirds. It reaches speeds of up to 50 km/h. Its proboscis, the tubular mouthpart used for feeding on the nectar of flowers, becomes as long as its body.
