Yax Invites Series

Welcome to Yax Invites. This is a mix series curated by myself, based in Adelaide, with the purpose of creating a library of quality mixes and showcasing talent from around the world.

Episode 1 is full of loopy, hypnotic, and trippy grooves, featuring tracks from many up and coming artists in the techno world.

Yax Invites #001 - Yax

After some plausible backstory the 88756 program was born - the first computer algorithm to be truly indistinguishable from man. Designed to explore concepts such as individuality and what it means to be human, it quickly adopted a creative pursuit in techno.

The program's sound consists of overly complex, evolving synthesis and the liberal butchering of drum machine samples - described by one individual as "the soundtrack to a futuristic pacman but like it's also a 3D shooter".

Its 3 years of activity have produced works available on many local and international imprints, including @connection-verified (Melbourne), @otomotrax and more recently Soma sub label @avoidantrecords.

Expect a journey through all things electro, techno, and industrial for episode 2 of Yax Invites.

Yax Invites #002 - 88756

Due to the great response I've had with the mix series so far, I've decided to release episodes weekly for the rest of the year. Dave.LK is my first international guest and is based out of Gothenburg, Sweden, offering up 90 minutes of straight up banging techno. Here are some words from him about the mix:

"I don't think I'm the only one that has dived into the loopier, oldschool sounds over the past couple years. This mix sits around 142-144 bpm, my favorite tempo range which I rarely move outside of. Starts off lighter and trippier and ends up in the heavier style which initially got me into techno. 
Enjoy!"

Yax Invites #003 - Dave.LK

https://soundcloud.com/codecrecs owner and https://soundcloud.com/espcollective co-founder Decoder makes his mark on Yax Invites with a 2 hour mix full of stripped back rhythms layered with sci-fi soundscapes that encapsulate his loopy and minimal style of techno. 

The Dallas, Texas based producer who also goes under the alias of Cratan, has released a plethora of tracks throughout 2021 on various top quality labels around the globe, and it is a pleasure to have him on the series for Episode 5.

Yax Invites #005 - Decoder

Episode 6 of Yax Invites comes straight out of Northern Ireland, by way of Belfast DJ & Producer, Mxn who has provided the final mix of series for 2021. Have a read of his bio below, along with some words about his contribution towards the mix series:

"I am a Belfast based Techno DJ & Producer with a passion for the old school sound. Ever since the lockdowns hit I took this as an opportunity to learn how to produce & collect more records both new and old. This has helped me expand my knowledge of the genre and find the styles that suit me best. I have found a lot of inspiration from artists such as D.Dan, Alarico, James Ruskin, Endlec, Exium & many more. 

For this mix I aimed to combine some of my favourite Hypnotic, Oldschool & Tough Techno tracks which represent the styles of Techno that suit me best."

Yax Invites #006 - Mxn

Framework co-founder SJ takes the reins for Episode 4 of Yax Invites. Have a read of his bio below, along with some words about his contribution towards the mix series:

I am a 21-year-old DJ based in Manchester UK and co-founder of Manchester based collective and podcast series, Framework. 

My first route into electronic music was around the age of 15 where I started to get in to house music, leading me to gain a strong love for Chicago and Detroit house. Around this time, I basically used to spend hours listening to music on YouTube and through these algorithms I discovered tracks such as Black Russian and all DVS1s early Klockworks releases which remain some of my favourite pieces of music, with DVS1 being my idol and main source of inspiration, and essentially opened up a whole new musical world to me.

This in turn led me deeper into the electronic music spectrum, sparking an interest in Detroit techno, resulting in me seeing artists such as Robert Hood in my mid to late teens. Ever since I have built a strong passion for techno, delving deeper and deeper into the many different facets of the genre which has resulted in my current taste, revolving particularly around deep, sci-fi and mental hypnotic techno as I see this as more than just simply music, it is something much more powerful than that and the ability of music and sonics to alter your mind states and moods on the dance floor is something I find fascinating.

I love the concept of an extended mix series as I feel that extended mixes are the best way to truly portray your sound and tell your story, as opposed to feeling the need to hammer it out from the off which is the instinct that can arise with shorter mixes. 

For this mix I aimed to tell a story, weaving in different atmospheres and textures to build tension and have different twists and turns before ending on some groovier sounds and old school Detroit classics.

After a long journey in Berlinʼs night scene, Alexis Phase landed in 
Amsterdam. Apart from an experienced promoter, widely known for 
his infamous Phase parties at Griessmühle, he is also a well 
seasoned DJ and producer. 

A proponent of the Mutant Dance, Alexis serves his own vision of 
future electronic music. In his sets, he skillfully weaves cross genre 
elements and styles. EBM, Industrial, New Beat, Wave No Wave, 
Acid, & Electro, just to name a few, all coming from an extensive 
collection of vinyl and digital releases.

ASW Mix Series #033

Today we welcome another friend of the series for a podcast debut! Koot (full name Sander Koot) is a DJ from our hometown of Utrecht. Not for long though, as he will be moving to Rotterdam next week.

He has been in love with clubbing and techno for a very long time, but he is relatively new to DJ'ing himself. As clubs were closed during the pandemic, he decided to express his love for techno by picking up a mixer and some turntables in december 2020. Teaching himself how to beatmatch as a vinyl-only DJ took many, many hours but he enjoyed every minute of it! 

Koot recently upgraded his setup to include two digital players, which he uses alongside his beloved vinyl collection. After upgrading to a multi-deck setup, he started practicing with three decks at once to try and reproduce the heavy, layered techno experience that he loves to hear in the club. As you may be able to tell by the tracks used in this mix, Koot takes inspiration from DJ's/Producers such as Nørbak, Lewis Fautzi, Reeko, Tensal/Kessell (Exium) and off course Oscar Mulero (the cat chilling in the background of his picture is called Mulero actually). 

Appreciate this fine mixing on 3 decks flawlessly mixing vinyl and digital tracks into a dark, deep yet energising mix!

Sirius Podcast 025 // canis:minor

Today's episode is provided by canis:minor, he started DJing playing progressive tunes just before the beginning of the pandemic. During lockdowns, he found his love for deep and hypnotic sounds, always with highest priority towards wide, cosmic reverbs, stacked epic synths and not necessarily the highest speeds.

He owes his first real performances to CEL club in Katowice, PL. He also played in P23 (Katowice, PL), Ciało (Wrocław, PL) and at this year's edition of Techno Las Festival.

Devoted fan of the Polish deep / hypnotic techno scene. He most willingly reaches for sounds produced by artists such as Alexskyspirit, Deepbass, Vertical Spectrum, Isabel Soto, Raroh, Sciahri & Desroi.DJ.

with her oldest passion, the vinyl sessions.
Under this new aka Diana wants to make a difference in her techno and electro sets by using this format.
Diana Amor is the darker and more underground version that the dj wants to present us.
Based now in Granada, she has managed to have a valued place in the south-Spanish scene and a very promising career ahead.
