Each spontaneous and mysterious coincidences that occurs, carries a notice about the potential of each moment. The pursuit is to use them and interpret the messages they offer. 

One of these cosmic lights led us to the Artist who stars in this captivating installment of the fourth episode of our podcast series: David Reina. 

Born in Córdoba, south of Spain. His musical career began in the mid 90ʼs, being involved in Hip Hop for a few years. In 1997 he began getting involved in Electronic music and especially in Techno. More attracted to the Underground scene.

After a decade playing around Spain and twice in the United States, and having shared stage with international artists in numerous venues and events, he decided to study music production and sound technician. 

Releasing music in labels such as Axis Records, Subsist, Main Concept, Rhod, Gynoid Audio, Induxtriall, DarkForest, or Methodical to name a few, in 2018 he started his record label called Legend 1997 Records focused on Sci-Fi, Minimalistic Techno, and Cinematic Soundscapes.

The Art of David Reina; a journey where the author creates a sounder paradigm that opens the mind to changes permanently and makes the following invitation to his listeners.

As you become more aware of the concurrencies and their meanings, you begin to connect more and more with the underlying field of infinite possibilities.

Residing in Adelaide, Australia, Code618 is a veteran of all things electronic music, obsessive crate digger and curator of techno and house sounds for over 30 years.

After hearing sonic explorations from Detroit, Chicago and Europe over the crackle of late night radio in the early 90s his radar was locked. For this mix he has delved deep into the vinyl archives for a retro inspired set of 90’s classics and newer releases on a similar tip.

Birthed from the grit and grime of the mid-nineties Midwest rave scene. Born and currently residing in Akron, Ohio, USA. Inspired by the music and DJ’s coming out of Detroit, Chicago, New York, Berlin, the UK and the parties that were happening across the Midwestern United States during that magickal time. 1 Auxy began his obsession with record collecting and DJ’ing in 1995 in Akron and Cleveland. Warehouse parties and club nights. Late nights and early mornings. Techno, house music and the intersection where they meet. Raw, soulful, psychedelic. Mixing new and old. All for the love of the music. No bullshit. No gimmicks. 

"I really like this one. Starts off with ambient and more experimental jams, builds into a deep super heady techno set and ends with some dub techno from Maurizio and a house cut from Cassy. Really nice flow to it. Kind of like condensing a party into an hour and a half".

Her aim is to consolidate all the sides of her personality in one project.

My next guest on Yax Invites is Adelaide techno veteran, Ben Alibi, who has kindly prepared an interesting write up to support his mix for the series below.

Good records offer an insight into another existence - be it here on Earth, or the far flung reaches of our imaginations. Speaking personally, the valuable ones are usually something I continue to find something new in and are as appreciated being played right through, or mixed as a portion in a set. 

When DJing, I feel the focus should be on the music itself; I've only ever used two sources at once and I like to believe that in some ways there's fewer places to hide when it's just you and two tracks. Knowing how to juggle three (or more) decks well would be awesome though! 

I always go back to hearing Jeff Mills play over two nights, during the mid 90's. Night one was his 3-turntable power mix - which was amazing to watch first-hand! However, night two was performed on two decks only, whereby it felt to me like the level of intensity and audience involvement was counter-intuitively higher. Furthermore, it seemed like the track selection went deeper and everything being aired reached its full potential. 

As such, I believe a DJ's role is simply to work productions together, so as to best highlight the standout parts of each track simultaneously - anything more, or less, only detracts from what should be at the core of it all; individual human expression, through techno music. 

This mix has plenty of personal old favourites - tracks that we (my generation) would associate with a night out in Adelaide during the early 90's. I'm old enough to remember this period fondly and with good reason as Adelaide, South Australia truly was the underground techno capital (outpost) of Australia - if not the southern hemisphere - primarily due to being the base for the formative label, Juice Records. 

The current generation of contributors should certainly feel proud of our foundations, but crucially, remember that so much has changed. We're totally just a grain of sand on a beach now, but something big has been achieved here before, so it's certainly possible again.
 
From my perspective, if there's one thing to take from our history here, it's that we be totally confident in our unique way of doing things as that's core to our sustainability; moreover, it's what someone on the receiving end 'buys into'. 

Again, with the sentimentality... but buying records back in the day was like being a tourist - you were taking a ride on someone else's reality. Every point in the globe, every scene within a point, had its own sound and this was a big part of the attraction that techno music originally held. In essence, I wish to continue being part of the movement that (re)focuses on sounding like Adelaide, for us to then communicate outwardly with. 

I love what we had, but I love where we might go next, even more. 

I hope that you enjoy listening to this selection as much as I did laying it down. N.B. keep an ear out for the new (and some unreleased) music within from DMZ and Antony Coppens, on Juice Records.

She is currently breaking through with releases on established labels like Krill Music, Soma Records, and most recently with Hotflush Recordings offshoot Who Whom. Throughout her productions Anna demonstrates her full unique spectrum of techno/electro, atmospheric, raw to the core, intense all the while and very well executed, With tracks that make your heart tremble through forceful reliance on the backbeat, she etches the sounds of the collective euphoria and is the dark angel of techno to keep your love of rave culture alive.

Luis Rozalén has been into electronic music since almost forever, it was 1981 and he was 11 year old when a 7” from Depeche Mode came into his hands and that fact was pivotal in what was going to happen next. He spent his teenage years in a musically surrounded environment. At some point he got a drum kit as a christmas present when he was 15 and started playing in several bands and projects until he discovered the power of drum machines and synths by the age of 17.

His first electronic output came in the form of synth pop, then evolved into EBM and industrial sounds in the late eighties and after a trip to London in 1990 he discovered the acid house and rave phenomena. Those were the days when some guys from Sheffield started Warp Records and  his ears switched to IDM and Detroit techno via the Biorythm and Retrotechno compilations. Mid nineties, he evolved into what we now call techno, releasing his first track as Hd Substance in Esplendor Geometrico’s label Geometrik Records in 1995. In 1996 his first album ‘Eleven’ saw the light in another cult imprint, Stereophonic Elephant Dance Recordings, as well as a bunch of vinyl Ep’s and the second album in 1998 called ‘Cancer Pop’. 
Then, he was a regular in all local festivals like Sonar, Benicassim or Festimad sharing this touring action with a residence at Soma Experimental Club from 1996 to 2000. In 1993 founded the first Spanish specialized electronic music magazine ‘Undersounds’. The new century started with his project Atlas Records where he teamed up with another producer releasing 10 records that soon came into the hands of the most prominent players of the scene. 

Disenchanted with how things were evolving in the music industry, he started exploring the digital side, releasing four complete albums in several netlabel platforms. Digging deep in the underground and focusing on his residence at Cassette Club in Madrid. 

In 2009 he resurfaced with another full length album called ‘Hardware’, the record somehow reached a Detroit record store and the LP went into the right hands resulting in his first gig in the motor city club The Works in 2010, becoming a regular there, playing live in 2012 at the Movement Festival with his project District 909 alongside Detroit legend Tim Baker. 

Never is too late, and in his 40’s he started travelling the world  playing regularly in Germany, China, Korea, France, Sweden, Finland, Russia, etc. reaching among others impressive clubs as  Berghain or Tresor.

2018 marks his 30 year anniversary in electronic music, keeping him playing techno all over the world, releasing techno in a constant basis, teaching at The Bass Valley, writing techno for Beatburguer.com, Clubbingspain.com, Pole Group or Falling Ethics and releasing other people’s techno in his own label SUBtl.

Victor Martinez aka Error Etica, is the owner of Psychoskunk Records, Producer, DJ and sound engineer as well as having stablished a reputation as a major reference in Northern Spain for Techno music.

Accruing over 25 years of experience his music includes credits for labels like Oscar Mulero's PoleGroup, Christian Wünsch's Tsunami, Reclaim Your City and Kessell of Exium's Granulart. He is a well-established and admired producer who has played many of the best clubs in the world like Tresor (Berlin) to Contra (Seoul).

Being faithful to his philosophy, Victor is continuously evolving; generating ground breaking sounds and new heights in techno over various fields of contemporary creation by composing soundtracks for documentaries, short films, trailers, commercials making off, to name a few, under different alias to prioritize the music and not the ego.
