SPACE IS THE PLACE 02_ A Sci-fi techno Mix

Espen Lauritzen was born in Norway and raised in South America, and is the driving force behind Krill Music record-label. In mid-2000 he became a regular DJ at Cocoliche Buenos Aires where he met his first heavyweight artists from the international techno scene. He later went on to the most famous institutions of techno, and has played at legendary clubs like Berghain and Tresor of Berlin. Currently he is based in Ukraine where he is running Krill Music, working on his own music productions, and holds the residency at club MetaCulture.

PODCAST 028 - ESPEN LAURITZEN

Welcome to Yax Invites. This is a mix series curated by myself, based in Adelaide, with the purpose of creating a library of quality mixes and showcasing talent from around the world.

Episode 1 is full of loopy, hypnotic, and trippy grooves, featuring tracks from many up and coming artists in the techno world.

Yax Invites #001 - Yax

After some plausible backstory the 88756 program was born - the first computer algorithm to be truly indistinguishable from man. Designed to explore concepts such as individuality and what it means to be human, it quickly adopted a creative pursuit in techno.

The program's sound consists of overly complex, evolving synthesis and the liberal butchering of drum machine samples - described by one individual as "the soundtrack to a futuristic pacman but like it's also a 3D shooter".

Its 3 years of activity have produced works available on many local and international imprints, including @connection-verified (Melbourne), @otomotrax and more recently Soma sub label @avoidantrecords.

Expect a journey through all things electro, techno, and industrial for episode 2 of Yax Invites.

Yax Invites #002 - 88756

Due to the great response I've had with the mix series so far, I've decided to release episodes weekly for the rest of the year. Dave.LK is my first international guest and is based out of Gothenburg, Sweden, offering up 90 minutes of straight up banging techno. Here are some words from him about the mix:

"I don't think I'm the only one that has dived into the loopier, oldschool sounds over the past couple years. This mix sits around 142-144 bpm, my favorite tempo range which I rarely move outside of. Starts off lighter and trippier and ends up in the heavier style which initially got me into techno. 
Enjoy!"

Yax Invites #003 - Dave.LK

https://soundcloud.com/codecrecs owner and https://soundcloud.com/espcollective co-founder Decoder makes his mark on Yax Invites with a 2 hour mix full of stripped back rhythms layered with sci-fi soundscapes that encapsulate his loopy and minimal style of techno. 

The Dallas, Texas based producer who also goes under the alias of Cratan, has released a plethora of tracks throughout 2021 on various top quality labels around the globe, and it is a pleasure to have him on the series for Episode 5.

Yax Invites #005 - Decoder

Framework co-founder SJ takes the reins for Episode 4 of Yax Invites. Have a read of his bio below, along with some words about his contribution towards the mix series:

I am a 21-year-old DJ based in Manchester UK and co-founder of Manchester based collective and podcast series, Framework. 

My first route into electronic music was around the age of 15 where I started to get in to house music, leading me to gain a strong love for Chicago and Detroit house. Around this time, I basically used to spend hours listening to music on YouTube and through these algorithms I discovered tracks such as Black Russian and all DVS1s early Klockworks releases which remain some of my favourite pieces of music, with DVS1 being my idol and main source of inspiration, and essentially opened up a whole new musical world to me.

This in turn led me deeper into the electronic music spectrum, sparking an interest in Detroit techno, resulting in me seeing artists such as Robert Hood in my mid to late teens. Ever since I have built a strong passion for techno, delving deeper and deeper into the many different facets of the genre which has resulted in my current taste, revolving particularly around deep, sci-fi and mental hypnotic techno as I see this as more than just simply music, it is something much more powerful than that and the ability of music and sonics to alter your mind states and moods on the dance floor is something I find fascinating.

I love the concept of an extended mix series as I feel that extended mixes are the best way to truly portray your sound and tell your story, as opposed to feeling the need to hammer it out from the off which is the instinct that can arise with shorter mixes. 

For this mix I aimed to tell a story, weaving in different atmospheres and textures to build tension and have different twists and turns before ending on some groovier sounds and old school Detroit classics.

My next guest on Yax Invites is Håwgk, a 25 year old artist based in the south of Germany. Techno has followed him for the greater part of the last 10 years, and now he has recently began working on his own productions. In this mix, Håwgk showcases a groovy and hypnotic sound with a strong focus on loop based techno.

Au Revoir nasceu no sul da França e o ex-baterista descobriu seu amor pelo techno depois de se mudar para Berlim. Começando com sets improvisados ​​ao vivo com sintetizadores e uma bateria eletrônica, ele mais tarde encontrou o impulso de começar a mixar também quando cofundou o State of Emergency Collective em 2020 com artistas com o pensamento parecido. Au Revoir was born in southern France and the former drummer found his love for techno after moving to Berlin. Starting with improvised live sets with synths and a drum machine, he later found the impulse to start mixing as well when he co-founded the State of Emergency Collective in 2020 with like-minded artists. Together they run a podcast series on soundcloud as well as a party series in Berlin. His style is always evolving, yet well anchored into a particular aesthetic. Focusing on hypnotic rhythms and raw soundscapes, blending older cuts and modern tracks with the goal of sending the crowd on a dancing trip into another dimension.

BIO:

Eduardo Smetana is a regular activist  supporting local projects on a Łódź's scene since 2017. She performed in Berlin (VOID, ACUD MACHT NEU), Częstochowa (Scena TfP), Katowice (SIXA), Gdańsk (Ziemia), Cracow (Szpitalna 1, Sekta Selekta), Wrocław (Transformator, Ciało) and Poznań (Projekt LAB, Dom Technika). 
Lover of a hard beat, controlled noise and precise constructions. She adapts classical music knowledge and transpose it to the electronic scene with no fear of crossing the boundries of genres.
She shared the stage with  Al Ferox, madwoman, Christopher Joseph, Baseck, Hadone, Stef Mendesidis and Psyk.

Eduardo Smetana regularnie działa na łódzkiej scenie klubowej od 2017 r. wspierając lokalne projekty, aczkolwiek można ją było usłyszeć również m.in.: w 
Miłośniczka mocnego bitu, kontrolowanego hałasu i precyzyjnych konstrukcji.
Wiedzę zdobytą w czasie nauk o muzyce klasycznej przenosi na scenę muzyki elektronicznej, nie bojąc się pływać między różnymi gatunkami.
Na scenie towarzyszyli jej m.in. Al Ferox, madwoman, Christopher Joseph, Baseck, Hadone, Stef Mendesidis i Psyk.
