Yax Invites Series

Welcome to Yax Invites. This is a mix series curated by myself, based in Adelaide, with the purpose of creating a library of quality mixes and showcasing talent from around the world.

Episode 1 is full of loopy, hypnotic, and trippy grooves, featuring tracks from many up and coming artists in the techno world.

Yax Invites #001 - Yax

After some plausible backstory the 88756 program was born - the first computer algorithm to be truly indistinguishable from man. Designed to explore concepts such as individuality and what it means to be human, it quickly adopted a creative pursuit in techno.

The program's sound consists of overly complex, evolving synthesis and the liberal butchering of drum machine samples - described by one individual as "the soundtrack to a futuristic pacman but like it's also a 3D shooter".

Its 3 years of activity have produced works available on many local and international imprints, including @connection-verified (Melbourne), @otomotrax and more recently Soma sub label @avoidantrecords.

Expect a journey through all things electro, techno, and industrial for episode 2 of Yax Invites.

Due to the great response I've had with the mix series so far, I've decided to release episodes weekly for the rest of the year. Dave.LK is my first international guest and is based out of Gothenburg, Sweden, offering up 90 minutes of straight up banging techno. Here are some words from him about the mix:

"I don't think I'm the only one that has dived into the loopier, oldschool sounds over the past couple years. This mix sits around 142-144 bpm, my favorite tempo range which I rarely move outside of. Starts off lighter and trippier and ends up in the heavier style which initially got me into techno.

The Dallas, Texas based producer who also goes under the alias of Cratan, has released a plethora of tracks throughout 2021 on various top quality labels around the globe, and it is a pleasure to have him on the series for Episode 5.

Yax Invites #005 - Decoder

Framework co-founder SJ takes the reins for Episode 4 of Yax Invites. Have a read of his bio below, along with some words about his contribution towards the mix series:

I am a 21-year-old DJ based in Manchester UK and co-founder of Manchester based collective and podcast series, Framework. 

My first route into electronic music was around the age of 15 where I started to get in to house music, leading me to gain a strong love for Chicago and Detroit house. Around this time, I basically used to spend hours listening to music on YouTube and through these algorithms I discovered tracks such as Black Russian and all DVS1s early Klockworks releases which remain some of my favourite pieces of music, with DVS1 being my idol and main source of inspiration, and essentially opened up a whole new musical world to me.

This in turn led me deeper into the electronic music spectrum, sparking an interest in Detroit techno, resulting in me seeing artists such as Robert Hood in my mid to late teens. Ever since I have built a strong passion for techno, delving deeper and deeper into the many different facets of the genre which has resulted in my current taste, revolving particularly around deep, sci-fi and mental hypnotic techno as I see this as more than just simply music, it is something much more powerful than that and the ability of music and sonics to alter your mind states and moods on the dance floor is something I find fascinating.

I love the concept of an extended mix series as I feel that extended mixes are the best way to truly portray your sound and tell your story, as opposed to feeling the need to hammer it out from the off which is the instinct that can arise with shorter mixes. 

For this mix I aimed to tell a story, weaving in different atmospheres and textures to build tension and have different twists and turns before ending on some groovier sounds and old school Detroit classics.

Welcome to Drone Select. The place for Techno Minded Heroes. On this episode we would like to welcome a true raver. This hero has pure love and passion for Techno music and is connected with his passion on many levels. Besides DJ-ing this raver also has a great talent for producing and is going strong with his releases. Solid grooves and hypnotic vibes emerge from his hands and mind. FARLEY says "it is a real honour to be selected to record a mix for this series. This 90 minute session will fully show where my techno sound is as of this moment, containing hypnotic minimalistic sounds layered with scifonic loops adding rough textures to fully represent my techno style".

It's the first week of 2018 and we're happy to be back with a new episode of the Drone Podcast. And so we want to wish everybody all the best of luck and health for this upcoming year, and not to forget to thank all the artists, volunteers, and you listeners for your dedication love and support throughout these last few years!

We thank you all from the bottom of our hart!

Therefore we are happy to deliver again a new mix on the DRONE Podcast series. On this episode, we bring you back to the techno capital of the world, Berlin! This Techno Minded Hero has made a name for himself the last few years throughout his music productions and gigs. As a former drummer, he is well known for making complex drum grooves and patterns. His signature sound, heavy melodic industrialesque techno, can be found in numerous releases on labels like animal farm, Binary Cells, ARTS, Ōtomo, and on his own label LHR! So have a listen to some of his latest releases, hypercube EP (https://invisblebordersrec.bandcamp.com) on invisible borders, or his Memories EP (https://wunderblock.bandcamp.com/album/memories-wr055) on Wunderblock Records, Especially the track "Rave Ritual" is a straight-up warehouse banger!

For this episode, he granted us a two hour recorded mix which includes a lot of his own fresh productions, released and unreleased, as well tracks from Snts, Michal Jablonski, Non Reversible, Kas:st, Exal, Shlømo.

And so we are happy to welcome again a new Techno Minded Hero on the Drone Podcast No.094 with Lars Huismann in the mix.

BIO:
Lars was born in Berlin in 1987. His Career as a musician began very early. At 11 years young he started drumming in different bands. After a few years, he founded his own bands, playing different styles from jazz, fusion and all the way to progressive metal. His orientation on complex drum grooves makes up his foundation, while still being able to keep an open mind in regards to different styles and the ability to put them together to create a new form of art

At the age of 18, he discovered producing with different software such as FL-Studio and Cubase. Using these programs he was able to transfer his patterns and sequences from the drum set onto a drum computer. He has always had a natural yearning to tweek his recordings and productions, and shape them into unrecognisable elements of sound.

However, there was always a strong connection to more heavyweight electronic music. He discovered how great it is to listen and produce techno that basically wants to devour you from the inside out, vibrating your body with massive bass and some nasty hypnotic tribal rhythms.

In January 2015 he founded his own label, LHR, with the focus on deeply rooted warehouse techno. Lars Huismann Records is a journey in heavy melodic industrialesque techno music, built in an atmospheric and pulsating frame. LHR001 started with a full-length EP and release party in Tresor Berlin. Four beautifully cut tracks that take you on a journey through different areas of techno. It is an obsession with hard drilling percussion, banging synth-elements, and drums that roll together to create a more complex groove-pattern.

His second release on LHR is even more powerful. Hard stomping noisy big room kicks with very individual signature sounds. Perfect for the discerning techno crowd. Metallic synth melodies and hypnotic vocal sampling which drill the inside of your ear and a controlled bass that perpetually drives the track forward. This excursion has deadly effectiveness. Heavy pounding no mercy primetime techno that pushes you to the edge and throws you into the abyss.
