Yax Invites Series

Welcome to Yax Invites. This is a mix series curated by myself, based in Adelaide, with the purpose of creating a library of quality mixes and showcasing talent from around the world.

Episode 1 is full of loopy, hypnotic, and trippy grooves, featuring tracks from many up and coming artists in the techno world.

Yax Invites #001 - Yax

After some plausible backstory the 88756 program was born - the first computer algorithm to be truly indistinguishable from man. Designed to explore concepts such as individuality and what it means to be human, it quickly adopted a creative pursuit in techno.

The program's sound consists of overly complex, evolving synthesis and the liberal butchering of drum machine samples - described by one individual as "the soundtrack to a futuristic pacman but like it's also a 3D shooter".

Its 3 years of activity have produced works available on many local and international imprints, including @connection-verified (Melbourne), @otomotrax and more recently Soma sub label @avoidantrecords.

Expect a journey through all things electro, techno, and industrial for episode 2 of Yax Invites.

Yax Invites #002 - 88756

Due to the great response I've had with the mix series so far, I've decided to release episodes weekly for the rest of the year. Dave.LK is my first international guest and is based out of Gothenburg, Sweden, offering up 90 minutes of straight up banging techno. Here are some words from him about the mix:

"I don't think I'm the only one that has dived into the loopier, oldschool sounds over the past couple years. This mix sits around 142-144 bpm, my favorite tempo range which I rarely move outside of. Starts off lighter and trippier and ends up in the heavier style which initially got me into techno.

The Dallas, Texas based producer who also goes under the alias of Cratan, has released a plethora of tracks throughout 2021 on various top quality labels around the globe, and it is a pleasure to have him on the series for Episode 5.

Yax Invites #005 - Decoder

Framework co-founder SJ takes the reins for Episode 4 of Yax Invites. Have a read of his bio below, along with some words about his contribution towards the mix series:

I am a 21-year-old DJ based in Manchester UK and co-founder of Manchester based collective and podcast series, Framework. 

My first route into electronic music was around the age of 15 where I started to get in to house music, leading me to gain a strong love for Chicago and Detroit house. Around this time, I basically used to spend hours listening to music on YouTube and through these algorithms I discovered tracks such as Black Russian and all DVS1s early Klockworks releases which remain some of my favourite pieces of music, with DVS1 being my idol and main source of inspiration, and essentially opened up a whole new musical world to me.

This in turn led me deeper into the electronic music spectrum, sparking an interest in Detroit techno, resulting in me seeing artists such as Robert Hood in my mid to late teens. Ever since I have built a strong passion for techno, delving deeper and deeper into the many different facets of the genre which has resulted in my current taste, revolving particularly around deep, sci-fi and mental hypnotic techno as I see this as more than just simply music, it is something much more powerful than that and the ability of music and sonics to alter your mind states and moods on the dance floor is something I find fascinating.

I love the concept of an extended mix series as I feel that extended mixes are the best way to truly portray your sound and tell your story, as opposed to feeling the need to hammer it out from the off which is the instinct that can arise with shorter mixes. 

For this mix I aimed to tell a story, weaving in different atmospheres and textures to build tension and have different twists and turns before ending on some groovier sounds and old school Detroit classics.

Sam Wilson
Sam is the founder of Dosis Records, an independent Chilean techno label which develops a deep, hypnotic, experimental sound. He started DJing in 2017 and producing in 2019, something that has lead him to make his own event planner; Black Spot Chile, in two cities of southern Chile, and Dosis Records Showcase in Espacio 93, the most recognized techno club in the country. Sam is the main host of Extracorporeal Therapy podcast by Dosis Records, which is a monthly radio show on Fnoob Techno Radio. Discover his production and previous mixes in his profile.

Start The Riot
Joyce Contreras aka. Start the riot, has been djing since 2021 and studying production since 2020. Currently working on her first track which is produced mainly in an analogous way, their sounds venture into deep and hypnotic techno. It has been presented in Santiago at Espacio 93 for multiple circles like Erotic Techno, Dosis Records Showcase and others of the underground scene such as Integrated Circuit, Techno Maniatic, Dystopia and Chaisenroom.

My next guest on Yax Invites is MUM0L, a DJ from Sopot, Poland, making his mark on the series with a dark and hypnotic techno mix. His bio is outlined below.

MUM0L: One of the pillars of Paranoid Collab, adds his colorful personality to this unique squad. Inexhaustible positive energy is his trademark. Both when he takes up the reins behind the decks leading the rhythm of the party and also when he happily shares dance floor with an audience. An artist has been continuing his mission for many years since he has been to a trance party for the first time. The event opened for him some new music paths. Amazed by what he experienced that evening he happened to feel a strong hunger of following this direction. Regular attendance to similar events, interest in other Djs publications and producers made him a connoisseur of trance, techno and other types of electronic music.

After many years of taking part in great parties he decided to create his own sets. In 2013 he bought decks and started to practice to find his own Dj style. Lately he has played in almost all of the most important techno clubs in Trójmiasto, and not only. Those who had a chance to see he him on stage know that he cares especially about selection. Although Mum0l stays open to other styles and types and he bravely mix them into monolith. His selection oscillates between melodic etheric deep techno, dark techno, progressive and industrial hit. He builds tension with great sense and tells music stories based on deep bass, sublime melodies in the rhythm causing faster heartbeat.

Nases Morur is a Greek techno Dj & Producer based in Greece, he is a resident of the Ergotherapy team.

His musical journey begins at an early age of his life, starting with music production at the age of 15. Deeply influenced by the Hip-Hop culture he started experimenting with groovy and old-school beats putting some dark elements on the way. Going down this road he then discovered the energetic and magical world of Techno that changed his life and his musical identity. 

His sound could be characterized such as Dark, Mental, Energetic and Hypnotic. He enjoys giving the flow of his sets a more storytelling vibe. He likes to play with your feelings using his sounds giving you a hit straight to your brain. Bass and high-frequency sounds are his favorite part of a track. Mixing this together he delivers a confusing feeling on the dancefloor, that makes you overthink.

Lot of experimentation starting ambient and slowly build up tension with deep techno.

Joachim Spieth has released a steady stream of emotive house and techno over the past fifteen years. Launching his own label, Affin, in 2008, Spieth has since become a curator and selector for his own specific brand of dark and melodic sounds.

Born and raised in Oporto (PT), he is now based in Barcelona to keep evolving his career.
His music has been released in labels such Subsist, Analog Section, Warok, Anaøh and Hxagram. 
In 1 year on market , he has already seen his music being released in Vinyl (include a remix of Vertical Spectrum and Voidloss) and was well supported by some of most important artists in scene as Oscar Mulero, Lewis Fautzi , Kessell, Inigo Kennedy, Joton, Svarog and other greats.
In 2020, STNDRD will launch BAHN· Records hand by hand with BAHN· collective.
