It's always heartening when the quietly committed are granted their righteous rewards. In this case: rise up, K15. After a six-year residency at Jazz Café and a string of all-too-unsung releases on Wotnot Music, it was only a matter of when rather than if that K15 would catch his wave. Now with Insecurities — his wonderfully deep debut on Kyle Hall's Wild Oats — in the trunk (and in amongst several end-of-year lists), dude's been given the well-earned honour of cutting the tape on No Room For Air, Wild Oats' newborn sister label.

"Mist" is a gentle sleepwalk into a lower key: a turn down from the club and a chance for K15 to parade his soulful versatility. A blend of head-nod drums, rising strings, and a gorgeous Amerie flip to boot — it's only a crime this one ends so soon.

K15 "Mist" - Boiler Room Debuts

Alpha Pup Records presents Mù Chè Shān Chū by Howie Lee: an innovative producer, master sound curator, and ambassador from the Chinese musical underground. Born in Beijing where he lives now, Lee has lived in London, recorded in Taipei, and is now releasing his debut album on a Los Angeles label – truly a global phenomenon.
 
After being hit up by Snoop Lion for a remix in 2012, Lee’s “future music from Downtown Beijing” busted out of China to captivate crowds with its thoroughly unique style. His distinct approach blends local samples, traditional Chinese sounds, and inventive modern rhythms. Tracks are drenched thickly in bass and imbued with the fresh feel of youth – and often, are right at home on the dance floor.
 
Gripping from the very beginning, intro track “The Gate” invites you into the artist’s underground world and sets the tone for an expansive, epic journey. Syncopated beats strut through “Cloud Lamps,” and “Sinka (feat. Zhang Yang)” steps right into a thundercloud. “Bei Hai” is a riveting experiment with an alluring rhythm, a warm wash of sounds that pulls in unexpected directions.
 
Mù Chè Shān Chū is always in motion. Impossibly dense and lush, yet also incredibly spacious and vast – a juxtaposition that reflects China itself. From the plucked strings of the guhzeng to the butter-rich bass of the 808, Lee brings an unmistakable Far East flavor to the leading edge of modern electronic music.

Coming straight out of Melbourne with plentiful attitude, Producer/multi-instrumentalist Silentjay teams up with fellow Hiatus Kaiyote backing vocalist, Jace XL to present 'Sacrifice', a mini album of epic proportions.

At once sincere and heartfelt, the songs do not shy away from the playful influence of 90s RnB - a sound that is a defining influence on this EP, which despite clocking in at just under 30 minutes, attains a level of artistry and conceptual cohesiveness that many artists could only dream of.

Another VERY serious record, from an impossibly fertile Melbourne scene that is quickly becoming the envy of the world.

"The idea to run two EP's this year was to give people a batch of records that retains a connection while containing different styles and approaches. I find it’s more fun simultaneously stepping between projects and letting my mind go somewhere else musically, with each body of work inspired by the other. - Elusive

Elusive's Consonance EP is the latest body of work from the Los Angeles keyboardist and producer, bookending the Dissonance EP released earlier this year for more fusions into electronic, jazz, and IDM. Scheduled for release in early September with Alpha Pup Records, Consonance sets the scales for the new direction Elusive has paved since the full-length albums Textures (2016), Headspace (2016), and Fusion Swing (2017). Elusive has become one of the most active entities within the LA beat scene, placing considerable energy into the advancement of the cities forward thinking scope of sound.

Consonance was solely derived from Elusive over the course of a few lengthy sessions, putting together every sound, texture, and rhythm on the 22 minute ride. Playing through various chord configurations and lacing every track with an abundance of overtones and rhythms, Consonance breaks the mold of most electronic albums in the 2010s. 4/4, 6/8, and 7/8 time signatures are abound, unique breakdowns split tracks from melding hot to soothing cool, and a progression of changes gives every moment a new window of identity. Heady music that derives from a plethora of influences and sonic palettes.

Along with working on the next full-length for Alpha Pup Records and the lo-fi beat work found through his albums on Dome of Doom, Elusive is gearing up for his first tour of Europe and the UK. He will present his more jazz inflected work, accompanied live with trumpet by his brother and frequent collaborator Josh Koslow.

Consonance is out worldwide on digital platforms, September 7th, adding another vital entry into Elusive's advancement as a unique voice and multi-instrumentalist from the LA region.
