Their passion for the environment and rewilding has lead them to write and perform  Born To Rewild a walking gig theatre show performed outdoors in nature at Vogrie Pogrie Festival, the Govan Wetlands Project and Kelburn Garden Party as well as playing at campaigns to Save Maryhill Library and The Peoples Palace and The Winter Gardens. They have influences as varied as Flatt and Scruggs, Flight Of The Conchords, The Mighty Boosh, Robert Burns, The Proclaimers, Simon and Garfunkel, Limmy and the Humble Bums. 

Colonel John McMustard is the frontman of genre hopping ultimate festival band Colonel Mustard and The Dijon 5 and his solo album Sports Mixture and first gig theatre show Colonel Mustard & The Big Bad Wolf received critical aclaim when released at The Edinburgh Fringe 2019. 

Colin Hunter is an Ayrshire born and bred singer songwriter with heartfelt emotive lyrics that have seen him support acts as diverse as Pictish Trail and Kyle Falconer. To immerse yourself in his songs elicits a powerful response. He bravely opens the door and lays himself open. Colin casts a light on every corner of his heart and soul in language that anyone can comfortably empathise with. It’s this blistering honesty that separates him from the other singers and songwriters that proliferate.

The song is a rockabilly track written for the gig theatre show Born To Rewild where Hunter & McMustard teach families about rewilding and the environment. This year's performances will be at Mini Manouvres at Queens Park Recreational ground Glasgow on Mon 8th May and Vogrie Pogrie Festival 16th-17th Sep. The big reveal is the wolf is a vegetarian but doesn't like to talk about it. Fun times with beavers and lynx, planting trees and bringing back the Caledonian Forest. The disclaimer sums up what the song is about.

5. Hunter & McMustard 'This West Of Scotland Vegan Is Going To Do Your Nut In'

Opening track of the Born To Rewild gig theatre show 'Back To The Wild' sums up perfectly the shows intention to bring rewilding, climate action and embracing nature to the next generation.

Following on from a successful Tron Theatre Glasgow and Edinburgh Fringe Gilded Balloon run in 2019 Colonel John McMustard returns with The Big Wolf- Born to Rewild. Join Colonel John McMustard, Colin Hunter and Roddy Dickson with some family friendly gig theatre with climate change and rewilding at its heart. In 2021 Brilliant reactions from families at Vogrie Country Park and at the Govan Wetlands for Cop 26 where we also helped rewild an abandoned graving dock with marsh and native broad wood trees. With more wolfing at Kelburn Garden Party and Vogrie again in 2022.  With shows with Mini Manouvres, Solas Festival and Vogrie Pogrie planned for 2023. The wolves are back in syle.

Born To Rewild is moving gig theatre, walking through trees and embracing the nature around with a mixture of storytelling, games, bad jokes and good songs, teaching valuable lessons about climate change and what we can do to help, in a fun interactive way. This culminates in a mini gig at the end on a stage, where the 3 wolves and their wolf pack sing the songs of the show 'Back To The Wild, Thank You Beaver, Freedom For The Children , Born To Rewild and Wild Thing'.

Track 5 Stand In The Moment earned The Scotsman 'Under The Radar' artist. The artwork features a picture of poet and activist Jim Monaghan standing in the moment at the Kenmure Street Protest that stopped the deportation of 2 Sikh men thanks to the power of the people of Glasgow. Jim and photographer Andrew Learmouth have granted us permission to use photograph with money donated to medical aid for Palestine. It's a song about hope and recovery and was our first release with band Mellow Party on Button Up Records on Fri 3rd May 2024 with launch at dry venue the Dream Machine at the Space on London Road, Glasgow.

Track 2 - Where I Belong written by Gordy Duncan 

John - "Gordy Duncan , I first met in the now demolished Dixon Street Studios , he came into the control room where I was trying to record with Colonel Mustard, looking jovial and proceeded to play bagpipes full pelt as we were listening to a play back, how could you get annoyed? We became fast friends,  with Gordy offering his accordion services to come on a weekend festival tour to The Lomax Liverpool and Cloud Cukoo Land in Somerset. Gordy confessed afterwards he can't actually play accordion , although the reality is , much like Colin , Gordy can get a tune out of anything and a good tune at that. He's played tabla in India , played drums for the True Gents and The Girobabies and his solo albums are beautiful. In a band full of storytellers, Gordys got a hundred great tales, if you ever bump into him ask him about how Shane McGowan once babysat him. His song on the album 'Where I Belong' is an emotive, cracker. Gordys , heartfelt,  romantic side is a joy to sing harmonies on. With unusual tunings and a gift for rythym and melody , his music flows and takes you on a journey. The more I think of it , the whole album feels like a travelling album and even though we went beyond the deadline, we just had to squeeze at least one Gordy Duncan original in. He's made of music 🎶.

2. Where I belong by Mellow Party

Deep In The Holy Water' in the old days would be the hidden track on the album. Colin wrote the tune after I said I'd like to have a surf song about surfing the Severn Bore. in a crazy coincidence our pal Jane's Granda mad Jack Churchill(no relation) 1955 surfed the 'Severn Bore' in Gloucestershire on a homemade 14 foot surfboard. and it coincided at the time with the scandal that had hit the news that the majority of England's rivers are polluted, only 14% meet the standards of a "good ecological status. Its not perfect in Scotland but its better and one of the few brags we've got is that our water tastes better, but i dont want our English family literally swimming in shit when they're at the beach. I was listening to the Blindboy Podcast at the time about Irish Godesses and the reverence that Clíodhna the Celtic goddess of the sea, with a passion and love, and deep beauty had and how our old myths and religions meant there was a deep devine respect for nature that has been lost over the years. Where as before water was worshipped and revered, now it is sadly polluted. Look what happened to The Black Sea for evidence of why we shouldn't mess with our life giving bodies of water. It experienced unprecedented degradation in the 1990s causing a large dead zone. The main sources of nutrients were runoff from the agricultural sector (fertilizers and livestock waste) as well as domestic and industrial wastes. You can go a month without food,  but you can't survive 3 days without water. The oceanographer Helen Czerski's was on the brilliant 6 Music Cerys Matthews  show talking about her latest research, measuring ocean breathing. All of these different bits of inspiration led to the lyrics. It's time we got back to respecting our water and what we put into them and oh aye 'Deep In The Holy Water' is a banging tune to surf or dance to regardless of the meaning.
