I wrote this song around 1999-2000 around the time my band the Ashurst Project was dissolving.  I had a delivery job driving to Toronto everyday and spent a lot of time in the car without a way to listen to music and the radio in rural Canada was minimal.  I'd often listen to french talk radio just to break through the silence of the 8 hour drive.  It was a weird time that made me feel a little strange as a human.  Anyways, I would sometimes bring a recorder to hum ideas I had and   Marathon was one of them.  I wrote enough songs for a collection I later called "The Singer Mahan" and only played it for a few ears.  This week, I worked on revisiting it with better recording capability and made very view changes from the original.  Enjoy.

Marathon

I have been sticking with working on music (almost) daily.   This is one of the ideas that came out.  I named it "winter palm" because when I was playing drums to the track, I could see our palm tree out the basement window covered in snow.  The words were inspired by the past summers bike trip around Oregon.

This road goes deep. Lord knows I may never sleep. The wind swallows me whole every breath I breathe. The road goes so deep. It runs straight through me. I feel so alone but also complete.  How I miss you.
