About this edit :
This past year I’ve fallen in love with some old musica andina from Uruguay, including the famous duos Los Olimareños and Los Hacheros.  This beautiful song with its haunting harmonies lodged itself in my head immediately…I gave it a slow house revision with cumbia percussion and added some shimmering synths to complement the original strings.

About this edit :
Paul Simon has always been my favorite songwriter, and his 1990 masterwork "The Rhythm of the Saints" is probably my favorite album of all time.  Simon recorded the percussion tracks in Brazil and then wrote the songs to the rhythms--an ingenious mode of creation that resulted in an album full of gorgeous melodies that pulsates with life and unfolds in unexpected ways.  For my edit of the title track, I simplified the harmony and supplied driving afrohouse rhythms and interlocking synths to make a catchy anthem perfect for a summer beach party...

“Los Luceros” is our cover of a Bolivian folk song that has become a favorite of ours to sing in ceremony. Its beautiful words carry a message of reverence for the natural world—the mountains, the cacti, animals, the full moon, and the people who sing and dance their praises.

This one is further blessed with the participation of an old friend and masterful musician from Colombia who has lent his skills to many of my tracks over the years: Juan Carlos Arevalo When you hear the melody played in his quena flutes, you’ll see why they have become our favorite instrument!

"I have always loved classic Son Cubano, so when I randomly came across the album "A Santa Barbara" by the duo Celina y Reutilio, I wondered how this gem has escaped my notice.  With Celina's voice ringing out clear as a bell over a relentless tumbao, this is timeless Cuban artistry at its best.  I brought up the tempo, added a dembow snare, some synth and percussion accents and a fire trumpet solo to compliment the original."

"Palomita" (Spanish for "Dove") expresses a sincere wish to take a "bird's eye" view, to fly above the appearances of the world and open our wings and minds to peace and harmony.

Yemanjo is a producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist with an international trajectory that has taken him around the world in recent years.
His sound merges organic house and downtempo with global folk influences, releasing on labels such as Wonderwheel Recordings, Sol Selectas, Café de Anatolia and Cosmic Awakenings, including a full-length album on Wonderwheel in 2024.

In his performances he blends original music with singing in multiple languages, trumpet, percussion and other instruments in an electro-acoustic live set.

Orchestra Baobab is a Senegalese band established in 1970 as the house band of the Baobab Club in Dakar. Many of the band's original members had previously played with Star Band de Dakar in the 1960s. Directed by timbalero and vocalist Balla Sidibe, the group features saxophonists Issa Cissoko and Thierno Koité, two singers, two guitarists and a rhythm section with drums, congas and bass guitar. Since their formation, the band has predominantly played a mix of son cubano, Wolof music, and to a lesser extent Mande musical traditions.

Ali Ibrahim "Ali Farka" Touré (31 October 1939 – 6 March 2006)was a Malian singer and multi-instrumentalist, and one of the African continent's most internationally renowned musicians. His music is widely regarded as representing a point of intersection of traditional Malian music and its North American cousin, the blues. The belief that the latter is historically derived from the former is reflected in Martin Scorsese's often quoted characterization of Touré's tradition as constituting "the DNA of the blues".

Yemanjo gives this classic Malian blues a combined hip-hop/slow house groove sure to fill dance floors from Toronto to Tombouctou...

Mario Julian Benassi (May 16, 1995-June 26, 2018) was a monumentally talented light warrior who permeated the world with his music, presence and positive vibrations.  I had the good fortune of being around him in the communities of Kauai, Nevada City, CA and Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.  This sublime song was one that Mario and I had planned to produce together before he tragically passed in the Yuba River in June 2018.  Luckily, our friend Mose Cagen (@mosemusica) recorded Mario playing the song in Lake Atitlan a couple of years ago so Mario's spirit can continue to live on through his beautiful voice and words.

Susana Baca is one of the reigning queens of Afro-Peruvian music, a rich mix of infectious folkloric rhythms such as "Samba Lando" and "Alcatraz".  Much like the Cuban son, the magic of Afro-Peruvian music centers on the meeting of African drums and Spanish guitars.  I first heard Baca on David Byrne's Luaka Bop compilation singing her incredible classic "Maria Lando" and have been fascinated ever since.
