For the 28th instalment of our mix series, GAB is honoured to present @gunfingerfood , one of our favourite independent vinyl record labels and radio shows. Through a range of sublime mixes for platforms such as Bloop, Threads, Hoots TV, AAJA and a ridiculously large b2b with Earful of Wax on Late Night Shopper, Lex G has propelled Gunfinger Food forward as a prominent advocate of underground vinyl culture. The label’s two physical releases featuring Cyphon & Observ, Bobo and Pépe offer up high quality productions varying from breakbeat to electro. 

In the first half of his GAB guest mix, Lex G explores a range of underground styles, effortlessly blending current breakbeat gems with acid and electro heaters. But from the 40 min mark, the hardcore takes over. The incredibly humble Lex actually apologised for extending our standard hour-long session as he delved deeper and deeper into his collection of euphoric 90s hardcore. However, we’ve got a feeling that any listeners won’t be complaining. 

Big up to Gunfinger Food for this insane mix and for continuously supporting vinyl culture. Enormous love goes out to Ian Munro once again for delivering the sleekest of designs.

Extra Spicy’s third various artist's compilation, XTR003, is an all-Australian affair. This nine-track release features some of our favourite local producers and covers the full spectrum of bass music, from classic purist flavours to mutant genre cross-pollinations. 

Heavy, chopped-up breaks and massive bass stabs pervade 99 Nissan Patrol’s Ruffla, Mashup from Akul, and label owner Mincy’s Gnome Home. 

Fans of more stripped-down flavours will want to make a beeline for the UKG nostalgia of Why Didn’t You Mention It? by Myledo and Krypsis’ dark garage groove LoFi Rider. 

The final portion of the compilation raises the tempo. DJ SUNROOF gives a respectful nod to the past on Break The Mold, a jungle banger chock full of mangled breakbeats. 

Hardcore energy is merged with chaotic footwork sample manipulation and ghetto tech attitude on Say My Name from Floor Twenty, while UNKLE SYD channels 1992 warehouse energy on Sydtopia. End User License Agreement rounds out proceedings with a heady, dubwise roller that focuses on spacious echoes and big sub-bass. 

XTR003 proves that you don’t need to look beyond Australia’s backyard for big talent.

PREMIERE: Floor Twenty - Say My Name [Extra Spicy Records]

For Gimme A Break's third original release we are very excited to present Thomas Dalzell's debut EP 'Fractals'. Drawing from a broad range of musical influences, this multi-genre work merges trans-Atlantic soundscapes infusing soulful vocal samples with dubbed-out synths and Thomas' distinctive analogue drum racks. When citing his musical influences, Thomas singles out the 1996 Slam album Headstates and its fusion of Electro, House, Dub and Trip Hop. This genre-defying production style is best demonstrated in Thomas' "Fade 3" a hard-hitting track reminiscent of 90s Electro. However, there's something for everyone in 'Fractals' with "Pontic", "Firebird" and "Ambience" referencing Thomas' UKG and Techno influences whilst "General Dub" draws on the producers' musical background as a multi-instrumentalist. 

GAB would like to say an enormous thank you to Ian Munro for visually recreating Thomas' interest in Japanese calligraphy and graffiti in this striking design.
