Born and raised in Malaysia, Sze Fong Yeong (*1992) took his first lesson on the horn at the age of 19 under the tutelage of Lin Jiang. In the following year he was admitted to study his Bachelor degree with Prof Chang Chou Han at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore with full scholarship awarded. He had also spent a semester on exchange at the Peabody Institute in the United States studying under Prof Shawn Hagen. After his Bachelor degree, in 2016 he went on to pursue his Master degree in Belgium studying in the horn class of Prof Eliz Erkalp at the Royal Conservatoire de Mons. Since April 2020, he started studying in the horn class of Prof Saar Berger at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen.

Sze Fong has participated in Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, SommerMusikAkadmie Schloss Hundisburg, Norddeutsche Horntage, Schwarzwälder Horntage, Italian Brass Week, Alicante Brass Festival and International Belgian Brass Academy where he received masterclasses from Hermann Baumann, Radovan Vlatkovic, Frøydis Ree Wekre, Dale Clevenger, Johannes Hinterholzer, Christoph Eß, Samuel Seidenberg, Xiaoming Han, Nury Guarnaschelli, among others.

Sze Fong has travelled around the globe as an active orchestral and chamber musician. He has performed and toured with various orchestras such as Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen, Neue Philharmonie München, Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Flanders Youth Orchestra, Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie, and etc. In July 2021 he was even invited to perform with the German Hornsound as a substitute player.

Sze Fong has made his appearances in prestigious concert halls such as Gewandhaus Leipzig, Herkulesaal München, Philharmonie Essen, De Doelen Rotterdam, Tonhalle Maag Zürich, ICE Congress Centre Kraków, Palais des Beaux-Arts (Bozar) Brussels, Koningin Elisabethzaal Antwerpen, Concertgebouw Brugge, Esplanade Concert Hall and etc. Conductors he had worked with included Philippe Herreweghe, Edo de Waart, Frank Braley, Gabor Táckas-Nagy, Eiji Oue, Ronald Zollman, among others.

Sze Fong also grew his interests in contemporary music performances since he was already in the conservatory in Singapore where he got to perform a few times with the Conservatory New Music Ensemble. After moving to Europe, he also had the opportunities to play with Musique Nouvelles, Ensemble Sturm und Klang, and Studo MusikFabrik. In October 2017, he premiered chamber opera <La Lettre Volée> by Denis Bosse as part of the collaboration in between his conservatoire and Ensemble Sturm und Klang. The following year he was invited to participate in the CD recording project of Ensemble Sturm und Klang where they made the premiere recording of Belgian composer Eugène Samuel-Holeman’s monodrama <La jeune fille à la fenêtre>. In February 2019, he was made official horn player of the ensemble.

In the summer of 2021, Sze Fong participated in Lucerne Festival Academy and performed with the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra making his debut at the KKL Luzern and the Berliner Philharmonie.

Starting in October 2021, he will play at the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt as an Akademist for Season 2021/22.
