Our next instalment of the series is here and it's the perfect blend of why we created Outdoor Tapes in the first place. 

We first discovered @Tidy-Daps a few years ago via their channel and the treasure chest of "Tidy Vibes" mixes which Tommy Doctor and Tim Haze consistently put out (143 and counting!). 

Their music has appeared on over 40 labels worldwide including Nite Grooves, Milk & Sugar, and Deepalma and as DJs either together or individually they’ve played international festivals such as Creamfields and world-renowned clubs such as Ministry of Sound and Pacha London...so we're absolutely thrilled that they agreed to contribute as one of our early guests to the series.

2023 saw Tidy Daps continue their prolific release schedule and play some memorable gigs in Barcelona, while 2004 promises even more releases on labels such as Nordic Voyage, Ready Mix Records, Personal Belongings and DeepClass Records.

This mix is one you can rinse and repeat time and again, perfect for getting out there this weekend. Enjoy. X

Outdoor Tapes E05 | Tidy Daps

To deliver our sixth instalment of the series we have the wonderful nongfaye (@nongfaye).

We've been bestowed a truly eclectic range of genres so far and nongfaye adds a further dimension with an immersive journey through nostalgic trip-hop and downtempo electronic. From the first few minutes of this recording we knew we were on to a winner, and so we're absolutely thrilled to have nongfaye join the OT collective.

Based in East London, nongfaye has been an avid collector for many years and started her DJ career only a few years ago. These days, she can be found spinning records on the last Friday of every month at the Shoreditch Wine House (@shoreditchwinehouse).

Alongside Mooreo (@elmooreo) she is also the co-creator and resident of ‘Ice Cream’, a bi-annual party at @RollingStock in East London where you can expect friendly house party vibes in an intimate setting and a top tier sound system.

Q: LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR MIX FOR OUTDOOR TAPES. HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON THE TRACK SELECTION AND WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE PERFECT SETTING FOR THIS MIX?

One of my biggest music influences comes from a Saturday job I had as a teenager in a streetwear and skateboard shop called Hoax in Ipswich. It was in the early 2000’s and I was introduced to trip-hop and downtempo electronic music and have loved those styles ever since.  Genres of music perfect for the outdoors. 

I wanted to create something atmospheric that takes you on a journey and I imagine marching through a forest or reaching the peak on a mountain hike, but also to be enjoyed sat round a campfire in the wilderness with friends.  

The Outdoor Tapes mix has enabled me to delve into my old CD collection, mixed with some of my favourite recent finds.

Q: IN YOUR YEARS OF DJING AND EVENTS, WHICH PLACES AND EXPERIENCES REALLY STAND OUT FOR YOU?

Dreamachine (IG: @drea_m_achine) - it’s a multi-disciplined, immersive art experience that explores the power of our minds. It has the most amazing 3D sound production by Jon Hopkins and is an incredible project.

Q: WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN LISTENING TO RECENTLY THAT YOU'D LOVE TO PLUG (AND DOESN'T FEATURE IN THE MIX)?

My recent favourite finds are in the mix, Cabaret Nocturne, Japanese Limo Boys (featured twice!) and Que Sakamoto - saw him play in a club in Buenos Aries by chance and he’s a really interesting DJ and producer.

'Mare' is Christian Loeffler's second studio album and follows in a similar vein to his self-released debut, 'A Forest'. However a key difference is that while his first album was heavily sample-based, 'Mare' is much more organic, in which nearly every sound and every instrument is self-recorded. Many of the album's ideas are based on field-recordings taken from the surroundings. On top of this, several microphones were set up in the room and left to run on for whole sessions. The microphones collected everything, from tapping, singing, playing, footsteps, as well as percussive elements.

Alex Anders also known as Chris was born and raised in the suburbs of Miami, FL. At the age of only 23 he has started his journey in the Electronic Music Industry. Alex Anders has many influences in his music such as Nicole Moudaber , Adam Beyer , Amelie Lens, Green Velvet and Claude Vonstroke. His music verys anywhere from dark mallet pounding techno to bouncy and groovy tech house. 

With just 2 years into his journey in the music industry, Alex Anders has been able to accomplish a lot. From throwing events at Wynwood, to DJing along side local artist Ucros and Dj Brautigam. Not only has Alex Anfders been able to throw events but was also featured in one of Miami's most famous magazine VoyagerMia as part of their "Local Artist Spotlight". Sharing his backround and many other insights on what made Alex Adners the man he is today. 

From throwing events and being featured on a magazine, Alex Anders has been able to start his own podcast; Also releasing 2 EPs in 2019. Alex Anders may be young and new to the industry and definitely making his name known.

YeshaYahu (Isaiah Spain), is a Fort Lauderdale Beach based DJ and producer. Born in Stamford, Connecticut, he grew up around a diversity of people and nature. He came to discover electronic music in the late 90s through his older sister and immediately fell in love with it. At the time he would listen to late night DJ sets on the weekends on the radio listening to KISS 95.7 after-hours. After discovering online radio through DI.fm he would listen to international DJs play their sets. 

In late 2014 he officially started DJing. Over the years he has built up a powerful library of music that is very eclectic and resounding. His sets range anywhere from deep house tunes that with sooth your senses, to Nu-Disco and funky jams that will get you dancing to some remixed oldies, and some melodic melodies that will lift your spirits. A lot of his sound is influenced by nature and different cultures. It wouldn’t be strange of him to occasionally play a multi-lingual set. His love for people definitely inspires this. 

As of late 2017 he has played around various places in south Florida including the Hard Rock Cafe, Juvia, Do Not Sit On The Furniture and the SLS in Brickell, Miami. He currently is breaking into the local underground scene in south Florida and he is on the rise. His non-compromising sets are promising and are sure to get club goers dancing everywhere.
