Campout Mix Series: Yessi

We're digging back almost a year ago, presenting you with a fiery hot unreleased recording from Hot Mass for this week. In Dec 2023, we had the pleasure of a Yessi (@yessimusic) opening set for the inimitable Carlos Souffront. Two of our favorite wild musical weirdoes made a perfect pairing of classic and bleeding edge sounds. Although Yessi now resides in LA, she is part of Pittsburgh's @dyspheric-x collective – a crew centering trans and queer artists pushing the boundaries of club music. Hit play, sink in and enjoy the ride!

Yessi @ Dublab - Made to Move LA w/ Akumen 6.06.2025

In case you missed it — Texas-born, Pittsburgh and LA-based DJ Yessi lit up the main room at the FERVOR 2-Year Anniversary Party, opening the night with a genre-bending set that set the perfect tone. Her mix started with an intentional, driving pace and gradually turned up the heat, blending acid, techno, dreamy vocals, and Latine rhythms into an infectious groove. The crowd quickly matched her energy, going from warmed up to FERAL as she masterfully shifted moods and textures. Yessi’s set didn’t just open the night — it ignited it, laying down the perfect foundation for Mr. HoochieMama to take things even further.

YESSI - FERVOR 2 YR ANNIVERSARY

BUK THE SYSTEM is a compilation of experimental electronic music made in Pittsburgh, PA benefiting the Bukit Bail Fund. Comprising nineteen original tracks, the compilation is both a collective call from the participating artists to abolish policing and prisons, and a fundraising effort to aid Bukit Bail Fund’s ongoing work to support those incarcerated at Allegheny County Jail.
 
The Bukit Bail Fund of Pittsburgh was founded in honor of Frank “Bukit” Smart Jr., beloved brother, father of seven, and grandfather, who was needlessly killed at Allegheny County Jail when guards denied him medication and forcibly restrained him while he experienced a seizure.  He was detained pre-trial, and had not been convicted of any crime. We stand with the Bukit Bail Fund’s demand to end cash bail, pre-trial detention, and the entire prison-industrial complex.
 
All proceeds from the purchase of BUK THE SYSTEM will go to the Bukit Bail Fund of Pittsburgh.

My sets are built around the specific context, audience, time and place of each gig––spanning techno, "idm", broken beat, dnb, bass, house, "latin club", guaracha, cumbia, post-punk, "ambient music" and more.   I am also an artist that creates films, multi-channel installations, sound design & scoring for moving image, and uplifting queer DIY music events and nightlife spaces through the @dyspheric-x platform and collaborations with other queer collectives.
