Get It Right

Brambles is inspired by memories of childhood pastimes, particularly picking blackberries with my mum, sister, and grandparents. The gentle fingerpicked guitar part provides a steady backdrop for the dreamy clarinets and trumpets that weave through the track. I was really happy to be able to include my sister on the track as one of the vocalists.

One by one we go rummaging on
Staining our shoes with the berries and sun
We pluck, we pull, the buckets fill
We amble

Two by two we go battling through
Stretching and straining to grasp at the shoots
You bare your skin, the thorns dig in
The gamble

Boardroom decisions like a ticking bomb.  

They ghost the artists, silence the seers,  
Velvet glove tactics, engineered fears.  
If you speak truth, they cut your feed,  
Boolean barriers in the corporate creed.  

We ain't assets, we ain't pawns,  
We’re the prophets they bury at dawn.  
But dawn still comes, and the verse still burns,  
While the planet spins and the tide still turns.  

Ancients danced with the stars and soil,  
Now it’s spreadsheets, oil, and toil.  
Mystical wisdom — erased by greed,  
Imperial minds with a cancerous need.  

They shoot the foot, then blame the limp,  
While the climate shifts and the species shrinks.  
Inherited wealth, inherited lies,  
They sell the future while the present dies.  

We’re embedded in ecology — not above,  
But they treat the Earth like a thing to shove.  
Short-term goals, long-term loss,  
They crown themselves kings, but forget the cost.  

And when they’re gone, it’s the kids who pay,  
In poisoned seas and skies of grey.  
This ain’t intelligence — it’s programmed decay,  
A suicidal species with nothing to say.  

But we speak loud, we spit the flame,  
We name the sickness, we break the game.  
We’re the artists they tried to mute,  
But truth don’t die — it just reboots.
