Dialectics 043 - GMJ guest mix - March 2022

With the "Osmosis" EP lighting up the GMJ and Matter firmament in June 2017, Proton Music saw yet another example of Australian skill and craft. As we now return to the EP, "11 Moons" receives a pair of new remixes, courtesy of talented British and Polish producers.

Dan Baseley is a man whose career path has risen steeply in the underground dance scene. Through his Orsen production moniker, the British born artist has hit upon a unique and highly sought-after sound that has reverberated across the underground fraternity. Now based in his adopted Austrian home, Orsen's work, since a September 2014 debut for Optimized Recordings, has continued to find him at the vanguard of the progressive house scene. Moreover, work for Cid Inc.'s hugely respected Replug Records, saw four tracks of the highest order released in September 2017, in "Through the Woods". The "Komorebi" EP for Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat in January 2016, plus work for Perspectives Digital and Particles, have shown Orsen at the top of his game with the "Elysium" EP for the latter proving a focal point for the label in June 2015. Now, returning to Proton Music after a trio of remixes and a June 2017 reworking of Roger Martinez, Orsen takes on GMJ and Matter with considerable aplomb. A beautifully constructed percussive groove lays the foundations for a wonderfully warm bass line to flow forth as textured pads gently pulse adding further depth. The melodies so central to the original make their presence felt in gated glory with both rhythm and melody working in perfect harmony to create a unique new take on "11 Moons".

Using their Cream and Deep For production soubriquets to great effect, Krzysztof Kupczakiewicz and Krzysztof Kotlinski have been involved in the music scene for a number of years. Both successful DJs and producers in their own rights with performances across their Polish homeland, the duo have collaborated on a host of tracks, providing themselves with over a century of production credits. Regulars on such impressive imprints as Soundteller Records, Electronic Tree and Particles, Cream and Deep Fog's work for the latter has seen a clutch of original and remix work, not least in the four-track "Neverland" EP in August 2015. High profile remixes of Andre Sobota and Kastis Torrau and Donatello have further raised the Polish duo to the upper echelons of the underground progressive house scene. As they now make their Proton Music debut, the Cream and Deep Fog remix is a deliciously driving offering that evolves elegantly with its club-friendly beat and head-shaking percussive groove. Evolving elegantly over the eight-and-a-half-minute voyage, a wonderful bassline progression adds interest as richly textured pads create depth, before a shimmering motif creates a new melodic direction. Intelligently using GMJ and Matter's original components to great effect, a raft of additional production material has added a new dimension to the Australian pair's work.

Remixes from Orsen and Cream and Deep Fog have seen GMJ and Matter continue to shoot for the stars with "11 Moons".

As Rick Pier O'Neil found "One Side of the Underground, Vol. 1" in November 2017, Proton Music oversaw the release of a six-track masterpiece from the French producer. Returning to the EP, Yin and Yang now revisit "Glade" and commission a pair of dramatic new remixes.

An artist with a strong musical heritage, Paul Hamilton is a Dubai-based DJ and producer who has lit up the global club stage with his meticulously crafted sets and involvement with the "One Love" project. Appearances alongside Oakenfold, Judge Jules and Basement Jaxx have been coupled with a production career that is the envy of many. A triple-century of production credits can be found on a host of notable imprints that include ARVA, Baroque and Balkan Connection. 

Making his Yin debut in May 2017 by remixing Sapiens & Springa's "Introversion," Hamilton now returns with a bass-driven affair. Retaining the pulsating character of RPO's original, a host of new production material is added that shines through in new percussive groove. Similarly, a rippling arpeggio sequence filters into aural range accompanied by atmospheric pads and effects at the breakdown, before hitting their stride in the third movement, combined with the rhythm and bass.

Yin and Yang (n.) - the concept of duality forming a whole. A fundamental premise in Chinese philosophy now transposed to the electronic dance industry through the creation of Proton "Editions". Through encyclopaedic knowledge of the 4,000+ strong Proton roster of labels Tripp Baronner has envisioned a new concept of the principle of seemingly polar opposites, coming together as interconnected and independent universal forces - life and death, the dark and the light: one complete entity. 

From a passion for underground progressive house at opposite ends of the audio spectrum - the deep, shadowy atmospheres to the blissful, shimmering melodies, "Yin" and "Yang" were born in an effort to represent this phenomenon in musical form. Each release will provide a single remix of an existing Proton roster track for two inextricably linked labels in the form of a light (Yang) and dark (Yin) edition. Released on the same day, a strong contrast in styles will thus serve to complement each other and nourish the whole.
