Beyond The Origins

The song, inspired by the plot of Vali, creates a musical and emotional link between listeners and a lost yet incomparably precious ancient civilization of Taiwan—the Peinan culture. Over 3,000 years ago, the inhabitants of a settlement on this island lived and depended on one another while following their religious beliefs. We call this island “Taiwan.” Have you ever listened carefully to its mountain forests and the people who sleep eternally in them? They are telling us the beautiful stories of Taiwan, stories that never should have been forgotten.

In the song, the boy sings an ancient melody passed down by the village elders, which goes:
Dee ie enssaa dnaaya (Children of the sun, beneath a half moon.)
Ii issee ento ui (Their spirits live eternally in the form of trees.)
Kii inssee essaa libaya (Hear the whispers of the forest,)
io si kenna (singing the beautiful stories of this land.)

The beginning of the song goes:
Mriya dehita
iude taka emu
Ameyín sáiya
(All myths are based on true stories.)

The main instrument is Lira de la estela de Luna(Lyre of Luna). It is the recreation of one of the oldest string instruments of the Iberian Peninsula. It was created based on an engraving representing a string instrument similar to an ancient Mediterranean lyre. This engraving is on an anthropomorphic funeral stele dating back three thousand years that was found in the town of Luna (Zaragoza) in 1975. The characteristics of the engraving are very similar to the style of the Tartessian period (10 to 6 B.C.). 
Besides, this song is dotted with a variety of original traditional musical instruments, like Chajchas, Quena, Palo de Lluvia, Güiro de calabaza seca, Pad Ghungroo, Frame Drum, etc.

Vali is Taiwan’s first fantasy-adventure novel set in prehistoric times (more precisely, about 3,000 years ago). It is based on the Peinan culture. The word “vali” means “wind” in an ancient language of Taiwan, and it is also the name of the boy and clouded leopard in the story. During a fierce storm, a canoe is violently tossed about on the water, staying afloat in spite of the tempest. All that is in the canoe is an unconscious boy, whose survival is a miracle and who will later be named after the wind—“Vali.” He ends up living with a tribe that is not his own, transforming, experiencing rebirth, and embarking on a long adventure…

YK band, an international performing group formed by Yerko Lorca from Barcelona and Huang Kuan Yin from Taiwan. Their genre of music focuses on fantasy and new ancient music. Their productions, characterized by a combination of Mediterranean and Asian styles, are deep-rooted in ancient music, through important archaeological findings (some of which include fragments of music written over three thousand years ago). They combine instruments such as the Tartessian lyre (dating back to 10 B.C.); the Kora, which is the traditional West African harp; the ancestral harp from China (known as the Guzheng); the Tar, one of the oldest frame drums, and singing. Árcaron, the first music album ever to include the Tartessian lyre (an instrument that had vanished from the face of the Earth for centuries before being recently brought back to life), focuses on the West African 21 strings kora and ancient Mediterranean lyres, embellished with digital sound. It has opened up a new horizon unrestricted by the stereotypical limits of traditional instruments. The 15 songs, which inspired a mystery novel we have written (also entitled Árcaron), are arranged in an order that follows the plot, progressing from quiet tranquility to the magnificence of epic poetry. The book contains English, Spanish, and Chinese versions.

The album is Golden Winner of 2019 The Global Music Awards and album of the year. Nominated in 2019 Golden Indie Music Awards Best World Music Album, the song〈The Fall of Dragons〉was nominated in 2019 Golden Indie Music Awards.

Árcaron is in fact a series of eight albums. The first, Árcaron – Under Twin Moons I - The Rise of a Myth, combines the aspects of myths of the ancient world, epic fantasy, and science fiction. In the story, the protagonist searches for the truth of the world via a book of mysterious sheet music. The storybook cover design is made to look like that of the book of sheet music, and the printed aqua pattern on the album cover comes from Árcaron folk tradition as presented in the story. There is also an image of an ouroboros based on a drawing done in the third or fourth century by Cleopatra the Alchemist. Its archaic look was achieved through a combination of foil stamping, four color-process printing, and varnishing before finally being embossed, and like books of old, it is perfect bound with an exposed spine. In addition, the page sides are smudged with red, echoing the bloodstains on the sheet music. The CD sits inside the front cover of the book, the notches holding it having been made to look like the full moon and crescent moon in the story, visually bringing you further into the world of Árcaron.

Así, combinan instrumentos como la lira tartésica (del siglo X a. C.); la kora, que es el arpa tradicional de África Occidental; la ancestral arpa de china (llamada guzheng); el tar, uno de los tambores de marco más antiguos, y el canto.
