Λένα Πλάτωνος (Lena Platonos) is a Greek musician, pianist and music composer. Her debut solo album, ‘Μάσκες Ηλίου’ (‘Sun Masks’) was produced in 1984 and reissued by Dark Entries in 2016. The album featured experiments with different sounds and a new batch of electronic equipment, such as the Roland TR 808 drum machine and Yamaha C60 synthesizer. Lena narrates each song in deadpan fashion, skillfully reciting her surreal Greek poetry. Her lyrics deal with the futility of love, the gap of human relationships, consumerist alienation in the bourgeois lifestyle of the 1980s.

We’ve recruited four of our favorite contemporary producers to remix their favorite tracks from ‘Sun Masks’. First up is “Lego” remixed by triple scorpio supernova Avalon Emerson, who is based in Berlin. Her remix morphs the track into a solid dancefloor twister. Next is “Lego” remixed by Lena Willikens, Cologne based DJ and resident at Salon Des Amateurs in Düsseldorf. She provides a deep and psychedelic journey through the darker shadows of the early night or morning. On the B-side is New Yorker and Firehouse Recordings boss Kim Ann Foxman remixing “Hoping By Shopping”. She transforms the spacey robotic vocoder track into a dynamic deep house workout, tough and dreamy all at once. Closing out the EP is a remix of “Wrong Love” by Berlin via Bucharest producer Borusiade aka Miruna Boruzescu. Enhancing the original melancholic piano ballad to a cosmic processional with poignant bass lines that build and recess like the ocean tides. 

All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jacket is a reinterpretation of the original ‘Sun Masks’ cover, isolating the photograph of Lena wearing sunglasses designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a two-sided postcard with a manipulated film still from one of Lena’s music videos.

Have you ever gotten lost in thoughts and dreams while gazing at the night sky? Those celestial bodies sparkling in the deep dark blue have caught our attention and driven intrepid explorations since the dawn of time. The mysterious immensity surrounding our beautiful little planet has always stimulated our fantasies: scientists and philosophers have found challenges in it, while artists have found nourishment for their creativity. Our talented friend mUnO seems to fall in the latter category, since he told us that astronomy, the night sky and the concept of infinity itself, serves as the inspiration to create ‘cosmic soup’, which is the way he describes his own sound. mUnO is the borderless project in constant evolution, launched in 2015 by Gonzalo Urtizberea, also known as Gurtz and 1/2 of Kermesse. Gurtz formed mUnO as a way to express himself without stylistic constraints and to experiment with new instruments and samples. His latest EP, Mareas, meaning ‘tides’ in Spanish, includes two enchantingly melodic original tracks and four lively vibrant remixes by none other than Lagartijeando, Vruno, Betelgeize, and Señora. The beautifully diverse styles brought by these incredible artists blend perfectly with the motifs of the originals, adding some spicy beats to the cosmic soup. Singer and producer El Mago debuts on YNFND with a 4 track gatefold LP entitled `Kanénas ́. 
Based half in Thessaloniki and half in Berlin, he ties between two identities as greek and german. 
Transfusing the roots of urban Greek music `Rembetiko ́ with modern electronica, he symbolises his personal journey with the connection of his two cultural identities. 

On entrance we start with `Gígantes ́, a fusion of vibrant humming, synthetic pops, crackles and the poetic voice of Plastelini. From the get-go we witness a vocal story written about the relationship with your demons, and how to live beside them. Interrupted by erratic gun- shots and bass-heavy shuffles, the message provokes a somewhat conflicting reaction. 

Stepping into what seems like a distorted cave, `Thálassa ́ takes us into tripped beats, off-time glitches and synthesised brush strokes. Swaying between looming hums and a pull and release of echo as it comes to it’s end. 

As we flip the record, a dissonant sample leads us into `Filakí ́, with what can be described as ancient bass. Vocal fragments shout but whisper as they are broken up by explosions. 
By the time the song reaches climax, you sense the origin of El Mago’s roots. 

The finale entitled `Potámi ́ boasts delicate guitar strings, followed by laid-back rhythms and El Mago himself on vocals. A bygone tale comes to mind as Potamós embraces Mago’s musical past as a performer in the more traditional sense, an ode to Rembetiko once again. 
You may think that `Potámi ́ marks the end of his musical odyssey, but in truth it is just the start. He is not Kanénas* yet. 

*translated as `Nobody ́ 

The release is accompanied by 4 tarot-themed cards depicting each track with poems written by Lina Rococco, alongside 1 secret track on vinyl only.
