I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas

On June 23rd, 2015, one of my best friends departed this realm and stepped into the Spirit World.  This was recorded a few days later, on the morning of his memorial service, which was being held in northern NY, while I was on tour in Lincoln, NE.

This is a reflection of my interpretation of the late-night club scene. I shared the instrumental with Jamilla, and she got back to me the later that same day with her lyrics ready to go!  This is our second collaboration, and I hope there will be many more to follow!

One for All (feat. Mama Jam)

This was my first musical collaboration with Jamilla (a.k.a. "Momma Jam").  Same scenario as with "One For All" (which followed this one a little less than a year later): I showed Jamilla the chord structure in the morning before I went to work, and before I finished my shift there was a message waiting that we had to get together "ASAP" so she could show me the lyrics she'd come up with!  She also recruited drummer Jay Sager to join us on this session, the recording of which came out surprisingly well considering it was done live through the pin-hole microphone on my laptop!

Recorded directly through the on-board mic on my laptop, mixed and arranged in Garageband.  All the instrumental parts are one-take, un-edited, and appear in this recording exactly as they were played.

*Disclaimer: Please note: this track, like many I compile and post, is not in a "polished" state. The intent in creating and posting this track was not perfection, but rather to highlight a sample of what could be.  Every multi-instrumental tune that I compose or arrange is intended as a sketch, to be played live in performance, by a full (and real) band.  The goal here is to record ideas with accuracy, while still leaving room for development and change.
