Remembering Demba

I made this mix a few years back just in case it was needed to bridge two music acts as the 2nd set up a live show. I never released it publicly for some reason. Today I found out that Demba Nabét (1972-2018) passed on June 1st. I met Demba in 2016 on a MaiTai adventure in Cabarete. He was a ball of energy, always animated and spitting out lyrics that would make people and himself crack a smile. One night when I was DJing, he did a small performance over one of his tracks. Also rocking some lit dance moves. Later that night we exchanged some music. I used two of his original tracks on this mix.  Thank you Demba, you have a fantastic soul, May it soar even higher!! See you again one day amigo.

DILL BRIDGE MIX (Remembering Demba)

On August 29, 2016, I had the unique privilege to be the second DJ to ever grace the decks of the brand new Art Car, Headspace.  We were parked on the Esplanade and 8:00 and I played this set from 1:00 AM to 4:00.   It was a magical experience and I hope you enjoy the end results of this 3 hour set.

This grey and wet weather in LA has me daydreaming of San Francisco and all my bay area friends and family. With that inspiration in mind I set out to record this mix of dreamier house music; smooth and deep, just the way they like it in The City. Of course I couldn't resist sprinkling in a dash of both weird and heavy, because how would we know the light if not for the dark?

Welcome back for another weekly mix here at LAMP. Fresh off the announcement of this years lineup for Desert Hearts (which looks fantastic by the way) we have one of their longtime residents and recording artists Lubelski joining us in the studio this week for the mix. In addition he has recently had a couple of smash releases with Lapsus Music along with his buddy Rybo further cementing his foot hold in the tech house world that is exploding at the moment. Thumpasaurus is an insane 5 piece punk/funk band, that formed in LA at USC while I was in college. I'd see these guys tear it up at rowdy backyard house parties or in people's living rooms where sweat would drip from the ceiling... I cant explain how formative it was for me musically to see Thumpasaurus. They reignited my interest in live music, bands, etc. They're a huge musical inspiration of mine. 

This is a collaborative EP I made with the homies from Thump. Wayne's World is an original, sparked by an iphone recording of the bass player, Logan Kane hitting a beer bottle with a drum stick.. The rest of the EP is a bunch of edits/remixes that range from a simple DJ edit of I'm Too Funky to completely reimagined versions of songs like Space Barn and Dance Like It's Your Life. 

I'm such a fan of Thump, their music, their live show, and the guys themselves. Henry Was plays drums in the Fantastic Voyage Band and also has a bunch of original music coming thru the label! 
Paul Cornish, Logan Kane and Henry Solomon are world class Jazz Musicians who are seniors at USC. They're all prodigies who are gonna be insaaaanely big in the jazz world individually. Then there's Lucas Tamaren who I hear isn't originally from this planet. Lovechild of Rikki Rikki Goose and some crazy Tiger in an outerspace barn house... 

Anywho, hope you dig the music and keep an eye out for Thumpasaurus (they have a full length album on the way!)
