“En Los Monegros” is a documentary that has been my gateway to my ancestral roots. On this journey of self-discovery, I embarked on a search for the land of my ancestors, a tiny village in the Monegros called LaMasadera.

Along with the visual story, I created the music inspired by this unique place. Every note and every melody is an expression of the connection I feel with my roots, so it is a tribute to the land that saw my ancestors grow up and a way to honour their legacy. 🎵💫

This documentary is a reunion with our roots, an invitation to preserve our traditions and to understand how our past shapes our present. 🌟📜

Eleven tracks of original compositions feature vocal performances from Suzanne Sterling, Visvambhar Sheth (Mayapuris), Kamaniya Devi (Premahara), Lisbeth Scott, Sheela Bringi (PremaSoul), Radha, Terra Gold and Monica Page. The world class cast of instrumentalists includes renowned flautist Steve Gorn, Go-Ray & Duke, Clinton Patterson (PremaSoul), Ray Ippolito (As Kindred Spirits) and global percussionist Marla Leigh.
 
Buoyed by master musicians from around the world, the recording is studded with ethereal, meditative and richly-colored soundscapes especially designed for savasana (the traditional relaxation and meditation period that concludes the typical Yoga class). The Yoga Sessions: Hang with Angels is also ideally suited for wellness applications such as meditation and bodywork, or as beautiful atmospheric music for a mellow evening.

Most of the pieces on Shanti Guitar are based on the concept of Raga, a traditional form of Indian music that has been in existence for centuries. It's important to note that these pieces are not traditional North Indian Classical music. Rather, they were borne from a personal musical style developed over many years - a style that is heavily influenced by this music.

The word Raga itself means “that which colors the mind." It is not only a scale or some fixed sequence of notes; it is considered a living musical entity (like a God or Goddess). The ancient Vedic yogis discovered that ragas have certain harmonious or antagonistic effects depending on when they are played. When correctly performed -- at the appropriate time of day or season of the year -- a spiritual connection between Raga and musician occurs, thus creating a "sound manifestation" between artist and audience. It is an experience that is literally out of this world.

Production note: all my vocals and guitar parts are first takes, they're not perfect but I kept them to create a live performance feel that nicely matches the 3 or 4 piece live band appearance of the backtrack (created in Logic X with virtual instruments)..
