Yokai Apollo was born in Oakland, CA, but moved with his mother and grandmother to Maine when he was 3. Being black in one of the whitest states in America made him feel isolated and alienated. This feeling of being different is evident in Yokai Apollo’s music and production. In his freshman year of high school, his friend started making beats on a school computer, which eventually led to him learning the process. Yokai’s biggest influences at the time were underground artists on SoundCloud, and he spent his days and nights recreating their sounds. Apollo’s influences also include XXXTENTACION and MEMBERS ONLY. Seeing the positive impact his heroes can make on people's lives inspires him to do the same. 

Apollo started loosely releasing music on SoundCloud in 2020 under the name ‘YoukaiUtopia’, before changing it to ‘Yokai Apollo’ in 2022. Focusing his genre mostly in alternative rap, he also incorporates some EDM and electronic influences. Not afraid to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be an artist in the 21st century, Yokai Apollo produces the bulk of his work so he can create exactly what he wants on his own. With a lot of content in the works, make sure to stay in tune with Yokai Apollo as he continues his journey of hard work and relentlessness.
