I wonder if the people from overseas who made some of these timeless house tunes ever fully got how special they are to SAn house music. Special shout out to the DJs who dug the music up and spun it, because this tune, along with the whole Soulcandi 4 disc compilation lured me into house music. 

I found this acapella in a folder that I scored from a "house DJ tools" group on Facebook & yoh, when I heard it, memories from my teens came flooding in. From getting pickpocketed on a taxi ride back home from school, or like, Southgate on Friday afternoons , Multimix group chats, Masters of rhythm, rise, Evisu Jean's, creative recreation sneakers, the ultimix @ 6 AND - Keneilwe, a crush of mine from around the hood. 

I was the introverted, soft spoken shy guy, who always wore a baggy royal blue drimac (which I never grew into, btw).
And the homies - they knew about all the sick DJs, had all the new tunes, always had spirited chats about last night's ultimix whenever we'd hang out at our 'spot' at break. All the music was stored and played on a Samsung E250 - with all the 'secret sound codes'. 

Even though I never said much around the gents - I was always watching, always listening. Soon enough, I'd also developed a knack for digging for music, and got myself a pirate copy of virtual dj from the gents, and started building & mixing my own music collection. I'd even asked my big sister if she could get me fruity loops. My sister didn't get me fruity loops, though. She did me one better: she got me my first ever guitar and even got me lessons. Bless her. She's gone on to be the biggest supporter of my musical endeavors since. 

The original version of this song takes me back to where it all really began. I become a more active listener of music, and an even bigger fan of my favorite musicians. Before these years, I'd only ever imagined myself becoming a rapper, but these times really set the precedent of this journey I've been on. It's ten years later now, & so much has happened but I believe that without this period in my life, I wouldn't be where I'm at now.
