This is an archived mix made for 'Cassette Sentiment' back in January 2021. The channel and mix disappeared, but as it was one of the most fun processes of making a mix till date, I wanted to re-upload it here.

"Reminiscence - A word with a deep connotation and a word that resonates with the feeling I have when thinking about my childhood. One that is full of scenes where the music of my parents are the sentiment. This is why I dedicate this mix to them: René en Ingrid. It’s recorded with their vinyl and cd's to take a trip down memory lane. 

It brought me back to scenes that are told by the songs or artists you’ll hear. I would like to visualize a few of these scenes for you. Picture a Sunday morning listening session with my father, realizing music together. He always taught me about music, lyrics and artists. Told me stories about festivals and concerts he went to with my mother or friends, and later brought me to concerts himself. He taught me a lot through it, and learned me to feel certain emotions trough sounds. 

Some other scenes I would like to mention are the long car drives without saying a word to each other, but only singing along. My mother, when she went all out to God is a DJ by Faithless in the living room. The chills my father and me got when listening to Radiohead, while my mother in the background said: “This is too dark and melancholic for me.” The music my father let me listen to prior important soccer games, to give me energy and confidence. The endless conversations about music. All the messages he sends me to check out music what touched him or he thinks I would like too, this is still happening today.

There's a lot more to say but maybe the most worthy thing to add is: they showed me their love for music and it made me realize what meaning it had to them. 

So, dad and mom, thank you for giving me these childhood memories and for letting me understand what music can be. I am forever grateful for that.

From the archives | Cassette Sentiment #009 w/ Yòp - Bachstraat Reminiscence | January 2021 |

Matt Cowell is the co founder of longstanding web zine meets label Viscera as well as a resident of London based party Optick.

Having been heavily involved in electronic music for many years he has fronted several parties and become a familiar face in the East end of the city having moved to the big smoke from the coast a few years back.

He brought with him a cheeky smile and a record bag full of exquisite House and Techno which demonstrates a depth and maturity in the dance.

A keen champion of friends and a familiar face front left, his taste is broad and eclectic, lending itself perfectly to deeper, longer sets of which he has become a stalwart of as a resident for Ransom Note.

This mix demonstrates a deep rooted knowledge in respect to selection – weaving its way through a number of key moments and creating a cathartic well rounded soundtrack which few DJ’s are able to achieve.
