'Sunshine, No Shadow' is about breaking down barriers, perseverance and changing attitudes; the song centres on Bessie Coleman - the first black aviator, who ultimately fell to her death. With lyrics presented in the form of two fictionalised letters (before and after her success/death as a top barnstorming pilot) from her little-known husband, this version was a single take in a rehearsal space with Iain (Hounslow) Cameron on horn and Synth. Hounslow only went on and mixed the track (embedding guitar and samples as he went)for us too.

Tank Girl is concerned with emasculation (manhood being ripped away) so could only be narrated by Denis Thatcher. Against the backdrop an incessant bassline, Denis drags us into their bedchamber. The track was produced by Jay Harris.

Dawkter Who

A photograph went viral recently: it features a 102-year-old Palestinian woman holding a huge key to the home she was forced to leave 68 years ago. She is not, however, named in its otherwise detailed caption.
Our song's conceit is that an old friend of hers, an Israeli, sees this picture with his dying eyes, and is compelled to reveal her name: we name her 'Amel' - the Arabic word for 'hope'.

Yorkshire Vs Essex are a London-based, cross-generational and cross-genre trio. Our songs present narratives hinged on the lives of historical figures... with nice slices of embellishment. Influenced by the likes of Robert Wyatt, Current 93, Scott Walker, Miles Davis, Shabazz Palaces, Nick Cave, Autechre, Matana Roberts, Bjork and Iannis Xenakis - but sounding little like any of them, bass and vocals merge with digital horn, synth and live flute - with...on occasion... electronics.
