In 2015, building on past emerging arts reviewers projects such as Scissors Paper Pen’s Papercuts, You Are Here is presenting CUTS!, an opportunity for emerging media producers to present critical responses to the festival. Led by facilitators skilled in content production, the CUTS! participants will be encouraged to undertake deeper analysis of the festival, critique our artistic vision, question our artists and their processes and explore Canberra’s diverse creative communities.

In 2015 we are partnering with 2XXFM and Young Folk Media, a media collective for young people living in the ACT brought together to unpack Canberra’s infamously boring reputation by producing content for 2XXFM, Canberra’s community radio station and SYN Nation. Young Folk Media is part of SYN’s National Youth Media Project.

Tune in to the Young Folk Media Hour, the show presented by Young Folk on 2XX 98.3FM on Sunday at 4.00pm and listen to the interviews here.

Someplace That I Used To Know will take you to places, and talk to people, that aren’t there anymore. It’s about observing change, remembering our shared pasts, and considering how we are shaped by where we live. Emma Gibson retraces a friendship from the past, and its moments in and around Garema Place. This audio tour is an unfinished conversation, with digression and detours, and no final words.

You’re encouraged to experience Garema Place anew, and document the world that once was..

Starting at the Festival Hub, this audio walking tour will take you to various places across Civic. BYO headphones and audio device (smart phones will work best).

When you return to the Hub, you're invited to deposit a memory in the memory vault for preservation. These collected memories may be used to inform a piece at a future You Are Here festival.

“Upon discovering our convict ancestry, my Nan seemed quite pleased that the crime bringing us to Australia was the theft of a book. My Mum had a cheeky tendency in her thirties to tear pictures of her favourite paintings out of art books in local libraries, and stick them next to her painting easel for inspiration. She gleefully claimed that genetics were the culprit of the theft, not herself.

Within that small recollection from my mother and grandmother, I started to wonder – how does the fog of memory change a story?”

Stealing Stories is a collection plundered from the women of Emma Kelly’s past and present. Stories from different times and places. Stories of love, stories of Canberra, stories of the everyday, the familiar and the unexpected.

Happy Axe records memories as clearly as they can exist in this moment. Come and share in the stories of her kinswomen, woven with a fog of saw, violin and spoken word.
