HOMESICK!!!!!!!!!!

Six and a half years ago I began a journey, one that I would have never thought would lead me here.

When I was 17 years old my apartment was raided by the police after I came in from a @realcoleworld concert, that is when I decided to attend VSU. I realized that I needed to leave this place called HOME because it no longer was a space where I could grow. Believe it or not, at 17, that was the third time I had ever been arrested.

(Fast forward) My first month at VSU Hurricane Sandy Hit and while everyone was calm in VA I was terrified to learn my neighborhood was without lights and other necessities. This made me miss HOME. A week later I returned HOME and after a conversation with my older sister, I realized that I was so stuck in my ways that the first chance I got to run back HOME, I did. 

On a trip back home my photographer @hibbard_nash asked me to pose in front of this mural and I thought it was dope but I never knew how important it would be to the next 5 years of my life. This picture’s importance became apparent to me when I witnessed my brother sleeping on a bench in a Park because NYCHA forbade him from living in my mother’s apartment and while watching my mother as she held back tears while trying to navigate through NYCHA’s attempts to evict my FAMILY.

HOMESICK is a feeling someone gets when they miss the place they call HOME, but when I left my HOME, 26, Chelsea and returned, I realized that I grew sick of the place I once called HOME and the tears it has brought to so many people around me I realized that HOME was something that we all carry within ourselves and bring wherever we go. I realized I was my own HOME.

Lastly, This project has a taste of everything from happiness to pain. I would like to thank my brother @dussedubz_ for being featured on this project. Along with him @iamceneda , Zoe Spencer and @bornmogul for being a part of the latter part of this journey. Also to all of the producers who believed in me.

Music mogul Jay-Z’s statement made in 1996, which triumphant lyricist, Young Hyi has embodied and carried with him into his 21st century style of narrative Hip- Hop. At age 26, this New York-based rap prodigy is silencing mumble rap once and for all, with heartfelt songs that combine catchy hooks, rhythmic poetry, and unquestionable lyricism, bridging the gap between the old and new-school’s style of songwriting.

Mastering the art of storytelling, Young Hyi’s Music allows listeners to visualize each song with his authenticity, rawness and emotive language. As the birth child of Harlem and product of the Chelsea Housing Projects, the mentality of a hustler is rooted in Young Hyi’s DNA. Young Hyi was a subject, and received music placement in HBO’s Documentary “Class Divide” with his song “Ways to Change”. More recently, His early 2019 LP release of “Homesick” has placed Young Hyi in the category of “Artists on the Rise”. With his songs “Homesick” and “Radio”, he gives you both the bitter and the sweet feelings of growing up in the Chelsea projects and quickly forging his own path to become the first person in his family with a college degree.
