in this one i wanted to retain and expand on the random elements, yet incorporate a groove, and to increase the probability of individual kick hits staying on or off over the course of multiple measures. i couldn't find a sequencer module that included individual step on/off controls, so i just used an 8 counter instead and fed each step into a controllable mute circuit, which i modulated with 8 separate extremely slow randomized square waves. i made the snare from an NES noise emulator, a square wave, and a triangle wave. one set of 2 chiming synths is triggered every 16 counts of 1/7 of the clock, and the other set of 2 is triggered every 16 of 1/8 of the clock, so they slowly intersect and recede.

there was an "issue" i encountered in bash2 affecting any kick or snare hit after the first in a series of grouped hits, meaning if (for example) the kick was supposed to go kick/kick/kick/kick/kick/-/-/kick, five 8th notes in succession, two rests, then a kick at the end, what actually would happen was kick/-/-/-/-/-/-/kick, meaning any hits after the "first" in a series were muted. 99% of the time anyway.

this was because the counter i was using as a sequencer output gates instead of triggers, and (after all 8 steps were fed through their respective randomized on/off switch), these gate signals were being mixed down from 8 signals to 1, which was then fed into the kick module itself. so sequential "on" gate signals mixed down to one signal channel is basically one long "on" signal.

to remedy this, I used gate attenuators to shorten the gate length back down into discrete triggers. now, i can get a full 8 beats of kick hits if things line up right! heavy!

i applied the same remedy to the snare trigger, as well as randomly modulated the release time of the snare hit within a set range.

i also added a pitch shift randomizer set to specific intervals to each of the 4 synth chimes, and randomized the stereo channel that each would send to.

added a bassline! slim chance it modulates up a half step every so often. also added semi-randomized dropouts for kick, snare/hi-hat, and bass respectively.

at the very end of this recording, i manually faded out everything but the chimes, but besides that i didn't touch a thing for the whole "performance". how fun!
